Just wanted input from users of aftermarket turbos and the performance. Is there a loss of low end power with larger turbos? If so what is a good size to upgrade to for everyday use and towing 5000-8000 lbs? I have a Edge juice and no other mods. May do some more playing after new Goerend trans/conv installed in 2 weeks.

Industrial Injection Super Phat Shaft 62! I have the 66 and it IMO isnt laggy at all for a charger this big. The only problem is towing in the mountains 8k it does surge on me. There havent been any surging probs with the 62 that im aware of. Probably the best all around quick spooling/towing and people are still making huge power with this little charger.

I would recomend looking at your driving style honestly and decide how the truck will be used when making any upgrades but especially a turbo. Also remember you will be your own warranty station.

I have the Super Phat Shaft 62 and you can't go wrong with it. You'll have to upgrade your intake though. These turbo's will move some air! doesn't make since to choke it out with a stock air box... Then again why would you upgrade your turbo if you didn't to the basic two things first?; Intake and exhaust...

I am also interested in an aftermarket turbo. Some quick questions about the ps62:

1. Whats the ballpark price, and hows it compare to similar turbos?

2. Will it just bolt right on or are exhaust modifications nessecary?

3. Am thinking of a pacbrake in the future, will they work together, bolt on, or mods neccesary?

4. How much hp will it safely handle compared to stock charger?

thanks alot

The SPS62 is a direct bolt on. You can order it with a large or small exhuast flange. The large flange will work with the stock exhaust elbow. In your case with an 03 you could upgrade to the 04. 5 elbow with the 4" outlet and go to a full 4" exhaust at the same time. By going this route a Packbrake for an 04. 5 would be compatable. I was told by II that a customer made 584HP w/TST with this setup. Look up pricing on II's web site. The SPS62 isn't listed but it is about the same price as the SPS66 that is listed. Also note that there are PS62's and SPS62's available (the posts above are refering to the SPS62).

I'm not sure what their price is right now, but my SPS 62 bolted right up to the manifold; at least it will. Since I have a 04 305/555 (all 03's and 04's have this) I changed the cast elbow on the exhuast side to the true 4 inch instead of the 4" to 3. 5" outlet... 600 model trucks have 4" through and through. I also got a package deal from industrial injection; ATS Arch flow manifold, ATS exhaust manifold and the SPS 62. The SPS 62 will support up to 550HP and 600HP "MAX" The stock charger on your 03 will support about "correct me if I'm wrong here guy's" 80 extra HP, and that's pushing it... Someone else will have to chime in on the exhaust brake. :-laf

I can chime in on the exhaust brake... I just installed a sps 66 last saturday on my '06 with a factory installed jacobs exhaust brake. After bolting the turbo to the exhaust manifold, I had to rotate the exhaust slightly to get it to match up the to the turbo. However, in doing this, the vacuum pod for the exhaust brake is now touching the firewall of the truck, and you can hear it knocking against the truck when starting and stopping the engine. There doesn't appear to be much manueverability in the ways to mount the pod... i've egged out one of the holes, cut away the insulation on the firewall, and even indented the firewall slightly to try to gain clearance, but it's still not enough. I'm not familiar with the pacbrake's mounting, but it may be a better option for you. Additionally, I'm not sure if it has to do with the backpressure change from the turbo, or if somehow I changed the adjustment on the exhaust brake, but it's efficiency has been greatly reduced... so much so, that although I can hear it engageing, I can hardly tell the truck is being decelerated at all. Hope this helps... Maybe someone else will chime in as well.

My pacbrake works perfect with my SPS66. I had to make a small notch on the actuator arm bracket, only because I didnt want to reclock the compressor housing so it wouldnt line up with the intercooler outlet. Very minor. Pics are in my Readers Rigs Gallery of the SPS 66/Pacbrake. The 62 should be the same.

check for a leak!!

I use a tool called "pipe blaster" you can get it a plumbing store, home depot ,ect. it is supposed to use water pressure to seal a pipe and clear them. I just switch the fitting so I can hook up air from a compressor and stick it up the tail pipe. it will seal the tail pipe and blow compressed air in the system so you can find leaks. You can do this when the pipes are cold and not burn the crap out of your hands. :-laf

Approx how much boost does the ps62 make? Other than a different boost gauge, I wont have to do any head mods like o'ringing will I?

Can someone point me to a web site that sells these turbo's.

Thanks.

I would think 45-50 on the 62, dont know for sure though. You wont have to O-ring the head. Just keep boost down to the 45-50 lb range and you should be fine.
