I'm looking to get an aftermarket "package" for my 2002 3500. Just looking to upgrade performance. I see bullydog has a package that includes electronics, intake and exhaust... any comments (price)? I would like to spend ~$1,000. 00 any sugestions? 4:10 rear, auto.

Andy :)

Jet Pilot has a good point. Gauges first! To keep costs to a minimum I'd ssuggest looking in the classifies on this site for a used EZ or the like & look to Rip for a great bargan priced 4" exhaust. If your willing to spend around $500 check out the CaTCHER.

:D I'm gonna too stress the importance of gauges but I say BEFORE any enhancements!!

I would suggest Boost Gauge- Pyrometer E. G. T. Gauge- Trans Fluid Temp Gauge(electronic sending unit type) and a Fuel P. S. I. Gauge. Go for the Afe MEGA Cannon, but don't fall into that " its a cheap exhaust system " I did that and trust me I know next time ! Get your exhaust system in Stainless Steel- get a good one so it will last longer- your working with a budget right- real world save alittle more money and get it in stainless so leave the exhaust out of this splurge and get a MagHyTec Double Deep Trans Fluid Pan- Heat is the number one killer of automatic transmissions they even give a nice tapped hole for temp sender. Better to take care of these items first then save for better enhancements-than Bully S**t :-laf :-laf :D

You did say $1000. 00 ? That's how I'd spend it Oo.

My two c e n t s !! :D

Gauges (at a minimum):

1. Fuel Pressure

2. Boost

3. Exhaust Gas Temp

4. transmission

Get some type of Air Filter Intake

1. AFE (do not buy a K&N)

Fuel system upgrade:

Look into doing something with upgrading the fuel system on the 24v trucks. The stock LP is of poor design and can barely supply enough fuel for a stock truck. There are many alternatives out there, but with this system, I would recomend a FASS-1. Some upgrade is an absolute necessity if you eventually plan on producing more HP.

Exhaust:

If you are handy, you can build a 5" exhaust for around $200 (no muffler), all you will need to buy is a 4" downpipe, 4-->5" coupler, 7' 5" tubing, 3* 5" 45deg, and 1* 5" 90deg elbow (and a tip if you like). Don't forget hangers (and clamps if you do not weld it together).

transmission:

Get some type of larger cooling system for your transmission. Heat destroys transmission components, anything over 200deg will start to bread down fluid and destroy the soft parts of the transmission. A larger pan and an additional aux cooler will help.

Doing this will not really get you any more power, but it will prepare your truck for more power. Better to go into Bombing prepared, then to break something first, then have to spend 3 times as much to get back to where you were.

General consensus is stick with a 4" exhaust, they're readily available. And GAUGES!!! F/P is the key gauge, it will help you spot a lift pump going bad before it wastes the injection pump. Will get you by till you upgrade the pump, FASS, RASP, etc. Some type of mild "chip" works great, Edge EZ, or the Diesel Dynamics TTPM. I would highly recommend the Catcher ECM if you want to pay the price, it's been my best mod yet!!! All the good suppliers will have everything you need on the shelf usually. Stay away from Banks!!! Overrated and overpriced, but that's just my opinion of course!!! :D

Tom

2001. 5 2500 4X4 5-Spd LB QC Black. Catcher ECM, DD Stage-1's, AFE, Bully Dog 4" pipe, ATS Exhaust Manifold, Silencer Ring MIA, JAKE Brake w/shifter switch, Geno's Banjo's, 3 Autometer's on the A-Pillar, Gear Vendor's O/D, Firestone Air Bags, Redline Oil throughout.

:confused: Man I would think that a 5" exhaust system on a stock truck would really be more of a hindrence than a performance upgrade? :-{}

He's not making 800+ h. p. here? Unless you like a drone sound echo-ing thru your head and not being able to hear your stereo..... :{

4" would be perfect- w- muffler.

Leave out the exhaust this time I dont know how these guys spend their money but I know it will get gobbled up FAST. When you do the gauges you'll need gauge pods for them- Ca-Ching!! Do the trans pan (MagHyTec) and fill with the mopar synthetic ATF and dont forget you'll need more than stock amount Ca-Ching!! And that Afe Mega Cannon.

With money left over ( if ) also get the synthetic lube for the rears :D

THEN the next $1000. 00 you will have layed a good foundation to start with- to do the exhaust the rite way- and start with a mild fuel increase :-laf

And be ready to spend many more thousands because you sound like the future victim of the MODIFICATION BUG !!!!

Not much

Let's be honest, if you only want to spend a grand, save your money. Not trying to rain on your parade but most auto transmission trucks don't like anything more than an EZ installed. Gauges are always good to have stock or bombed.

Save your cash for repairs you will need to the fuel system down the road.

Besides bombing is like eating chips, you can't stop where you would like to, it just keeps going and going :-laf

Believe me, My mildly bombed truck is a blast to drive, but it was real $$$ just getting here. Many times I wished I had never heard of TDR :-laf

The lure of bombing is a lot like the lure of Gold was for the pioneers. Just pick up a nuggett and your rich or bolt on a part and Eureka a 13 second monster. It ain't like that at all. All the stuff people say about the darkside and the slippery slope is TRUE

The baits in place, drag set to strike, alittle jiggle and... ... ... . POW!!! Your hooked!!

:-laf Don't say I didnt warn you! LOL :D

Whats that? smells like a wallet heating up!

Consentrate on getting Air into and out of your engine BEFORE you worry about fuel- your E. G. T. 's will be in a safer area... .....

Do the suggestions above- and plan your bombs wisely :--)

and most important monitor all them fancy new gauges :D
