AGP video cards obsolete?

I just bought a new desktop, a HP Pavilion 1560. The unit has onboard video that shares system RAM. I dont care for that system so I wanted a add on video card. They suggested PCI-E card. They said that AGP was pretty much dead and all the new units use PCI-E video cards.



Is this true?

Pretty much, yes. You can still find good AGP cards and the prices should be pretty good now. If your system doesn't have PCIe slots, do not buy a PCIe card.

... my 2 newer pc's don't even have AGP on the motherboard...

yup, agp died in favor of PCI-E but dont worry, PCIE is actually faster then AGP
