I was just reading about all the LP issues and it seems mine may be bad and may have been for a few weeks - is that possible? A few weeks ago I was trying to hook up my fuel psi gauge and I did everything I thoght I was supposed to do but it would go to about 5 psi then drop when I turned the key then when I cranked it it would go to like 8 or so then drop to 0 slowly I figured I had it hooked up wrong and disconnected it, (thinking ill later get it hooked up by someone who knows what theor doing) but a little before that and still to this day if I use the gas hard it feels like its bogging in waves (feels like a fuel issue) Should I replace the LP? fuel filter? etc. Man if ive been driving around on a bad LP and loose my VP ill be soooo Pi$$ed!!!

Where do you get a new LP and is it hard to install? Would going to the Dealership to get it fixed be a stupid idea?

Yes, going to the dealer to get it fixed would be stupid - read VERY expensive. Go to a Cummins dealer and get the pump there - you'll pay ~$150 instead of $350 at the dealer. You can find a local dealer at http://www.cummins.com . Get 4 washers for the banjo bolts while you are there. You can change it easily yourself - at most it's an hour job the first time. Here's a set of instructions someone wrote up on how to do it - https://www.turbodieselregister.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=42047 .

I HIGHLY recommend installing a permanent fuel pressure gauge to monitor the lift pump. There are a number of solutions that are being tried to solve the problem. Myself I've added a 7 psi carter pump back by the tank that feeds the stock 15 psi pump on the engine. You can see details on what I'm running at https://www.turbodieselregister.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=19767 . I bought my truck used as well with 24,000 miles on it. It had a bad lift pump on it when I bought it and I didn't know about it (this was before we knew about the lift pump problems). I put 4 lift pumps on my truck between 28,000 and 60,000 miles and that's when I added the pusher pump along with a new oem pump. I now have 145,000 miles on my truck and I haven't replaced another - they are still working as good as the day I installed them.

I also recommend that you buy the factory service manual for your truck. They cost around $100 but will be the best money you've ever spent. They are BY FAR the best service manuals I've ever had for any vehicle and are invaluable IMO.
