It is that time again in Vermont...
The time where the snow is off most of the fields and we (read that 'me') are too impatient to wait for the fields to dry out.

Once again I managed to totally sink my Ram down to the axles when I tried to venture out to 'grab' my car hauler. (see there is that 55 power wagon I bought in PA that I want to go get. . )

I managed to get my rig out of the holes (i. e. some space under the axles) using a few hundred pounds of manually moved gravel and several 2x8's. However no amount of easy going or raw bombed hp could get me moving without the rig trying to sink back into the stuff... (nice wet sod over brown jello)

Well my tenant, patiently watching the gnarly diesel thrash itself to death, finally came over and sheepishly asked if he could help with his ancient toyota.

Well, we found a stiff strap and I 'pushed' his toyota out of the field. That is my story and I am sticking with it.

How many times have I told myself to ditch those OEM tires (or at least invest in a winch)... .

Oh well, the wife has some new material to thrash me with (those lovely ditches in her horse's field) and I have some new incentive to buy a tractor or mud bog tires or a winch... .

Lessons learned? Yeah sure, need better tires and don't try this stuff when the wife is watching... #ad
Oh, and I found a new use for my style ladder bars... They help support your truck when the rear axle is heading to China... #ad

One final note... Once we were 'unstuck', I took the opportunity to fire up the PE to hot3 and 'blow' all the mud off the wheels and drive train. Laid a nice black cloud for all to see... . #ad

We can't let that toyota go away thinking it was too big and bad, can we??

I have a lil 85 Toyota 4x4 with the solid axle, no lift, and all it has is a good set of snow tires lol and it will go where any other truck wouldn't even think of going, sure they can throw the mud farther then me, but I'm not the one getting stuck. #ad
I love the lil truck

Take a lesson from your wives, nothing is complete with accessorizing.....
Try a set of Mattracks to get you through the muck.

A pickup is not nearly impressive as a 4WD articulated tractor though...

Cheers;

Great story! This will make you feel better #ad

Last month I got my garden tractor stuck in about 6" of water and mud trying to drag out broken tree branches from a recent storm. Thought, I know it's overkill, but I'll just bring the truck around with the tow strap. Didn't even get close to the tractor before I was buried up to my axles in muddy gunk! My neighbor was kind enough to bring his John Deere and get it stuck next to my truck. At this rate, I thought, it won't take long to get the whole neighborhood stuck in my back yard. Sooooo "borrowed" a bunch of landscaping bricks from the front of the house (which by the way are still buried in the dirt), filled in the trenches dug by the tires and got the truck unstuck, then used the truck to pull out the John Deere. Now back to the garden tractor... . ended up lifting up the back end (by hand)and pushing it out in under 2 minutes. Not bad for 3 hours work #ad

I worked out of a Chevy with the Matttracks this past winter. It is owned by an electric utility that I was doing some surveying work for. Cool concept, but does not work too well in deep powder. Also they had a hard time keeping a power steering pump working, a lot of extra force on the steering components during turns. They told me it runs about $20K for a set of four.

work2much...
Last years folly was to drive out in the very same field so that I could stand on the tail gate to pound in some fence posts... It seemed like a great idea... . #ad

Before that I tried to drive across the snowy field to retrieve my snowmobile... . That is what led me to buy the ladder bars.

Seems like a dumb streak, maybe I need to exam that a bit more... Heck no, I am just drawn to the sticky slick stuff like a moth to my argon lights... .

And no confession is complete without telling you my last garden tractor died when I used the mighty cummins to drag it out of a wet spot... (seems the transmission did not like being dragged even though it was in 'neutral' or so it seemed... . #ad
