Air Bag (dash) switch

I have purchased a airbag on/off switch(NEW from the dealer) for my 2003 2500 Quad Cab (NOT A FACTORY OPTION ON THE 4DOOR MODELS). I have the pigtail in the dash for the switch, and have connected, but the light on the switch doesn't turn on or off. Do I need to do something else to get this to work, or is this a bad switch?

The computer has to be told that you have installed the switch. The dealer's DRBIII has the capability. It has to be hooked up and the function turned on.

If I recall others who have done this had to take the truck to the dealer to have it enabled it in the computer.

Just to cover yourself and the company that enables the switch, you also need to get a waiver from the NAISHTA or what ever it is called. Now if you have a buddy that has access to a DRBII tool, you might be able to skip this step. I went ahead and got the waiver when I installed the pass. side switch. I figured as easy as it was to get the waiver it wouldn't hurt to keep it with the paper work for the truck.

my questions are 1. How much did the switch cost? 2. Why didn't they install it to begin with? We had a couple of kids in the San Antonio area that were killed by the air bag going off while riding in the front seat and I have heard of others that were decapatated because of them. I occasionally drive my neice and nephew around and worry about it.

Why didn't they install it to begin with? We had a couple of kids in the San Antonio area that were killed by the air bag going off while riding in the front seat and I have heard of others that were decapatated because of them. I occasionally drive my neice and nephew around and worry about it.

Because Dodge says the safest place for a child is the rear seat

But I agree, Please give the consumer the option to use the front seat (with the switch)

And you also need the trim piece called the bezel to mount the switch in, PN-5HD08ZDVAA. The only price I have is list, 24. 70. And no one else has mentioned it but you need two screws to mount the switch to the bezel. It only took about 10 min's to take the dash apart and install the switch and put the dash back together.



Not only is the switch good for those times when you have a child in the front with you, it is good if the person in the pass. side just has to ride with her feet on the dash. The crash might still do damage but the air bag wont permanently adhere her knees to her ears.

I recently visited a local dealership with a friend of mine that wanted to get rid of his 00' GMC , 454, 4x4 for one of our beloved cummins dodge. He asked the salesman if it had a switch to turn it off and the salesman said it was automatic on or off by the weight in the seat?

He did buy a new one we found a great deal on up in Washington , but now I am wondering if he needs that switch . I kinda thought at the time the weight thing sounded like BS?

I purchased the switch and the face plate from the dealer. I can't remember what I paid for it.

The reason for the switch (standard in the standard cab) is to turn the system off on the right side when it does sense the seat is in use.

I was told by the dealer this was to shut off the air bag when you have a person less than 100 lbs (my kids/friends)
