Hi guys, first post. I did a search but didn't see this addressed.

Does the "Air Bag" light simply mean the air bag is no longer working? Would that be caused by being activated and not recharged, or just breaking?

I can already tell this website will be well worth the money. I've always wanted a diesel and am happy with my choice, except for finding out AFTER I bought it from a dealer that I'm one of those lucky ones with a cracked timing cover thanks to that dowel pin...

As a long-time member of the top welding forums, I understand what it's like now as a newbie trying to understand all the new jargon. Go easy on me, I'm a quick learner, though.

Good question. The cruise control works, as far as I've needed it so far.

I'm not really all that concerned about the air bag itself. It's a one-ton and I wear a seat belt. If it's an easy fix, fine; if not, I just want to get the light off.

Is it the light in the instrument cluster? My '98 has a key operated control to turn off the air bag when you have kids in the pass. seat. The lighted key slot comes on when the bag is turned off.

danavilla: pre-98's dont have the key switch for the airbag.

MacMc: You could either remove the bulb (or wait till it burns out heh), or possibly try replacing the airbag module. Dunno if autozone/etc can scan the airbag module, probably not. Dealer would have to diag.

ebay doesnt have a used module at all, you might be able to pick one up at a junkyard for 20-30$

good luck

Do you even have an airbag?, What I mean is, if it has been removed (unplugged or deployed) I believe the light will remain lit. If you do not care just take the bulb out.

That's exactly what I'm wondering. Is this something easy to check? Do I need to spend 6 hours disassembling a dash to take out the bulb?

USUALLY (don't hold me to every single make/model) you CAN NOT remove the bulb for the air bag light with out a major over haul of the cluster. They are usually souldered in for the simple fact that the manufacture does NOT want you to remove this bulb then "forget" to tell the next buyer about any possible problems. New owner crashes, gets severly hurt and sues... .
