2022 3500 ho 12 k. Truck went in today for filters and oil change. Indy called me and told me air filter was very dirty. I said I had two new ones at home and would change it when I got home. I just took the 7 bolts out and pulled it out . It was very dirty. So my question is did he really pull 7 bolts and look at the filter or does it have a filter minder of some type like my old 99 . I’m baffled

No filter minder, but the computer will tell you when it’s time to change it if that happens before 30K miles.

They hold an unbelievable amount of dirt, I wouldn’t change it yet.

He likely pulled all 7 bolts and looked at it, it’s a pretty quick inspection.

It was very dirty. I drove maybe a total of a 100 miles of gravel dirt roads. Road construction which is pretty normal in the summer on the alcan hiway. Peak summer would have been closer to 200 miles. Not much traffic in September so no chips in windshield. Then there were the bugs. Filter had lots of dead bugs. It really did need changing. It’s it the trash now.

I still have busted knuckles from changing them out on my old 6.0 ford what a terrible truck that was to work on.
If I recall the 6.0 Ford filters held in excess of three pounds of dirt before they were "dirty" enough to change. We did a bunch of them at the college, they are easy if you pull the assembly out complete. If you try and open it up first they are a pain to get out. And the little bail clamps if you break or misplace one are now $16 each! The worst ones were the aftermarket CAI. They never fit correctly and the factory tube mounts would get broken and never retain them correctly.

I thought about that too . I would say from the top.. Taking the turbo hose off makes the air box lid a bit easier to access

I know how to take pictures with my I phone 12. I just don’t know how to post them sorry
This way is pretty straightforward.
