Hey, those of you who know me know, I just can't leave things alone. . Last week end, at Utah Dyno Day, I had Doug from Diesel Performance install, my new Air Dog Hood and Air Dam front spoiler! It's really cool looking, and is a High speed performance enhancer. What I have found out so far using this product is:

Turbo spools up ( I mean fast) from about 55MPH and higher speeds. Definate increase in power, and acceration at Higher speeds, Quieter inside cab noise, Turbo cools down much faster than before, and air Dam at high speeds provides better handlying. If you are expecting lower EGT"S, not noticable. This combo, provides cool air 6" opening on the hood and 4" opening from the Air Dam which is literally "Rammed" into the custom air box providing all the air you need. It's performance is most noticeable at high speeds, when turbo boost quickly rises, you are roomping on the go petal. More Air + More Fuel= More Power. . Also more Heat. I've attached some pic's of my truck... Sorry you will have to click on each.

:D :D

P. S. Since the install, I've painted the gray plastic bumper, the same color as the rest of the truck. Like the sport model. . It even looks better IMHO.

Heber... post some pics of the plumbing part. It would be nice to see if it crowds things. (?). Can you still get at your oil filter? I have liked the idea of the air dam since doug told me about it in an email last fall!

I was lucky enough to be at the get together and Heber's truck looked good before the mods but even better after! I didn't look to close at the plumbing for the hoods(out of my reach money-wise) but I looked at one that had been on for a while and watched them install 2 , the only plumbing interference I saw was with the inner fender.

The Air Dam improves handling on a 7000 lb truck? And how exactly did you determine this?

What were the before/after boost numbers?

EGT's???

HeberRam,

I was under the impression that the biggest reason to purchase the Air Bull Dog hood was to lower EGT's. The other reports of the system I have read have stated anywhere from 100* to 250* drops. I am will be curious to hear if you feel your EGT's continue to be relatively the same over time. Please keep us posted on your results. I think everyone here agrees that the hood looks bad a$$.

Air Bull Dog/ Air Dam

Sorry I screwed-up the pics. . If you click on the bold headings you should be able to see.

Rob Hanson... Don't have pics of the engine. I didn't have a camera at the time and the pics were e-mailed to me. . Try to get some later.

NVR FNSH... . The air dam has a stablizing effect on the steering wheel at high speeds. It seems the front end is being held down by the wind, where before the truck appeared to lifting. Also steering control at high speeds improved dramaticaly. . I'm talking about in the 75mph-100+ area. my boost would peak at wot in 6-gear 38 psi. I reached 40-41 a few times.

Dieselboy25. . There is no noticeable drop in EGT's with my set-up. There is no product on the market I know of that lowers EGT"S in a bombed truck and still produces HP gains. This hood /air dam combo should not be purchased if you are chasing EGT's. Like I said before, it's a high speed performance enhanser. The benefit you get is when you are crusing down the H-way say at 60 MPH, and someone was to get sassy, you then nail it, and the feel is just like you hit the propane switch. With so much, air being forced into the turbo, any fuel you feed turns into power. However, Your EGT"S go through the roof as well. . You look at your pyro and it's at 1500 degrees, you look at your speed and you are doing 100 MPH, you freak out like I did, ever so slightly back off the trottle and instantly you are 700-800 degrees. All in a matter of seconds. It's pretty hard to describe... Maybe, if you think like this. . You got a sports car and you want to put on a rear spoiler. So you put it on, it looks real sharp, but you can't tell any difference, crusing around town, but then you go on the freeway and hit high speeds, all of a sudden you realize your handlying became sharper. This is true with the Air Dog Hood / Air Dam combo with the exception, you gain power and handlying performance.

I leave for work at 10pm so if I get them after that it will be tommorrow before they get posted.

That blows me away. I figured that this hood would blow away the Scotty cowl induction method for lowering EGT. Anyone figured out why?

Forest and Jmarkos, let me try to explain. Running around town, normal Hy-way driving there is no noticible reduction in EGT's. . On a stock or slightly modified truck, there maybe? On my truck, which I'm runing dd'3, modified HX-35 turbo, 4" exhaust, Pe comp box, propane to name a few. You're turbo is always sucking for air at normal speeds, when you hit approx. 50 mph this new hood and air dam ( I maybe wrong on the exact speed) starts to realy push air down the turbo's neck! When this happens, the turbo is no longer working hard to suck air. Now that all this air is coming in, you start adding more fuel, the turbo reactes to this by spooling faster, boost pressure increases, more power is suddenly upon and therefore more heat( EGT's. ) Whenever, you start adding more power, your EGT's will rise. This is especially true on major bombed trucks. The good news is this is only happing on load, during acelleration. Once you have obtained the speed you want , a slight reduction in fuel will immediately, I mean instantly! drop your EGT"S to a normal range.

EGT's lower than stock

I had a Pyscotty unit for a couple months then purchased the hood and had it installed by Doug. I've had it for over a year now and after 30k ,mostly highway miles, I feel it lowers egt's about the same, if not slightly better then the Pyscotty. What I enjoy is the benefit HeberRam pointed out about being at freeway speed and punching it and feeling quick turbo-spool up. Of all the upgrades I've made, the hood is the best for my money. You can see I'm mildly modified and not in HeberRams league but the hood works for me.

DITTO rotohead!

I also had the Psychotty before I went to the Air Bulldog induction hood (I just didn't like the increased noise... especially with the exhaust brake on). At the time I had my pyrometer thermocouple POST turbo. I experienced around the same reduction in (unloaded) EGTs with either... around 50-75 reduction for the Psychotty and 75+ for the Air Bulldog (all other performance modifications were the same).

One thing one MUST consider here, HeberRam is using BOTH the Air Bulldog induction hood AND the Dam Air induction air dam. The combined effect of BOTH has not been proven yet (to my knowledge). By that I mean, with either system ALONE the intake air WILL BE force fed into the engine, TOGETHER it MAY setup an air bypass effect (i. e. , the positive pressure may just bypass INTO the other, "secondary" induction system). I DO KNOW that either system used by itself works very well... but together????

I have DD3s a DD TTPM and have made various other performance modifications and have only peaked at 1253 degrees F. (PRE turbo... now) as recalled on my SPA pyrometer.

Nice Ram HeberRam!

I like your choice in hoods! :D

I'm also going to purchase one of the Dam Air, air dams for My Ram although, I'm spec'ing it without the induction cutouts (plus some custom modifications I discussed with Doug). :D

BTW, are those PIAA 1500XT auxiliary lights in the bumper cutouts? If so, are they ion driving or ion fog? How do you like them?:cool:

rotohead, did you ever receive your Dam Air yet? If so, have you installed it yet? If so, post a pic or two. :)
