Amsoil TS-189

I had the same issue. I bought the newly available (drop-in) TS-189 from Amsoil. Cheap (about CDN $10 more than the Mopar when registered as a preferred customer), better air flow and reusable (clean it, let it dry, re-oil and go).

You can get the same kind of filter from AFE, Green, etc. . Have fun shopping :)

Any aftermarket filter arrangement (including a washable drop in replacement like the AFE) will make a startling difference in your performance. My truck dyno'd about 15 H. P. higher with the AFE and with the BullyDog over the stock filter. You will really enjoy the improved throttle response too.

Air Cleaners: Check the FAQ section at the Dodge truck link at Cummins USA. It's one thing for DC to say no, but Cummins makes the engines and also says no. Course, the question is specifically about K&N but is interesting. If you aren't going to keep it long (say 500,000) I wouldn't worry about it.

I just left the parts department at the Dodge dealer and they stock the Green filters for the new Cummins. So they must be good for the warranty.

Ok, I have 2 dumb questions.

1) I got an AFE drop in filter, what am I doing wrong that I can't get the lid closed. So far it is AFE 2, Jason 0.

2) do I need to seal the filter, if yes, with what, and will the filter do a better job than the stock filter or did I waste my money. :(

the truck is stock with only light towing. Thanks.

Jason

Jason,

I suspect the AFE drop in is a tight fit for good reason. Any filter that is designed for the life of the vehicle beter have a strong seal as it will gradually compress over time. Mine was tight but I managed to get the lid closed with a little extra effort. I suspect when I take it out for cleaning the next time that the seal will have molded better to the air box dimensions and the lid will close a little easier.

Good point on the reminder adsharpe. This came from a lot of people experiencing problems with K&N (including myself) with inconsistent quality and I had a lot of silt pass through mine. I haven't seen anyone have trouble with an AFE or Amsoil filter though, I think they are a substantial improvement over K&N.
