Need help with air compresser , have

Sears 2. 5 -8gal 110ac , it just quit and i took it apart have 110 all the way to the wind of the coil in the plates around the armiture ,brushes look ok. Last time using it it pumped up to 120 and sounded lilke it stoped for a second then finished pumping to max . That was the last time it would work , any place to look . should I give the rap test? Don't want the rip-off crew at the local Sears repair shop get at it . Thanks for any help , Ron in Louisville KY>   :(

Craftsman compressors don't live very long. Look to make sure the piston bore is OK. I've had 2 that siezed up after prolonged use. I took one in after 6 months of use and they said it would cost $280 to fix it. A new bigger one was on sale at the time for $259. I asked how they could justify the repair. They just shrugged.

I have checked the manual-auto switch is there a seprate pressure switch? I know where the regulator control is but don't know of the pressure switch . I know it must have one but don't know where, Thanks for your help , Ron in Louisville KY:confused:   ;)

Pressure switch is the most common thing to go. It should be a 3x3 box with a lever to switch the compressor off and on. A new one will cost about $30 or so. If the compressor shuts off and you don't hear it release air it's ether switch or a bad or clogged check valve in the line coming out of the tank. Thats how an emglo compressor is not sure about sears. Good luck!
