I was wondering if anyone here knows of anyone making a air compressor that can be added to your engine? Big rigs have them so why can't we. Could get rid of that spare tire. Well it was just a thought. #ad

Try this site, http://www.earthroamer.com/ (mentioned in issue 29) for your compressor. It's not engine-driven but the 100 percent duty cycle while putting out . 95 cfm@100 psi should take care of your tire airing needs.

Murle, the spot that Cummins designed for an air compressor is taken by the vacuum pump. You are pretty much limited by space to do anything except installing a 12 volt compressor. There are some good ones out there, but they won't put out the cfms that an engine driven one will.

I sure wish someone would put together a kit with all the parts in one box. What about using a small 110VAC compressor and a 12VDC to 110VAC inverter? That way you could air up the tires and make smoothies in the blender at the same time! #ad

Would any of these work if you split up the tank and motor to make it fit? - http://www.mytoolstore.com/emglo/emgindex.html

Hi, Don't know if this is a viable solution but, I see a lot of Jeepers retrofit an A/C compressor. Intrisically, it's just a compressor like a basic air compressor. The issue with the cummins is space. Plus, you still get the e-clutch so you can have ondemand use with economy. If possible, I would go with the York style compressor, since it has an intergral oil resevoir and would not require oil in the lines like the newer compressors. Also, if this doesn't work, there is a 100% duty 12v electric compressor which puts out about 2cfm. at 125 lbs. I think that it's by a company called roberts. This should be adaquate to inflate just about any tire

<font color=blue> Murle, I posed the same question myself in this P&A forum about three months ago under the heading "trailer air brakes" as electric trailer brakes aren't considered equal to the task over in Europe.

As "Illflem" states, space under the hood is the main limitation, dictated primarily by the humongous rear engine mount, which together with the other Dodge OEM equipment running off the engine, effectively prohibits anything else to be driven off the same point of the engine, which is possible in the larger trucks running with precisely the same Cummins engine.

Check the Rickson 19. 5" link below in my signature - Matt and Dan there are working on some sort of one-stop, on-board air compressor kit/deal as we speak.....

The air compressor on my hummer was 12V. It aired those tires up through the central tire inflation system no problem. You should be able to find out who makes theirs and get one those. It was kinda big though. I really only see it hanging off the frame.

The compressors in the Hummers are made by Thomas 1/3 hp 12volt available from GRAINGERS
about $450, i've installed on on my 93
and they work great.

This may sound kinda stupid, but can something be made to work off the PTO?

(I have a plate on my T-case which makes me think something can go there for a Power take-off - True?)

Booster,The problem with a transfer case PTO is that is will spin in backwards in reverse. The PTO off the transmission will work great for a compressor, that is if you have a manual transmission.

Do any of y'all have a part number for that Thomas compressor? I have looked in Grainger, but I can't find a 1/3hp 12V one.
