Ford gasser question

I used to haul bulk hazmat for Ruan transport. Their trailers had big V twin compressors mounted between the landing legs and the trucks had to be equipped with a PTO shaft to the rear to turn the comp. Those compressors raised holy hell with the shafts. They had to be replaced about twice a year because recips hammer so much. Graingers has 1/4 and 1/3hp 12 volt compressors but they are $450. Would the compressors from the Cadillac and Park Avenue air leveling systems be any good? Probably too small! Craig

How much would a new or used AC compressor cost? It would take some rigging and an oiler but could be a cheap alternative.

I talked to a guy here the other day in town he used a early ford style ac compressor and it works really well. He said you can even find them that had the surpentine pully on them but I'm sure it would'nt work with our big belt. However It would work off a pto. They of course have the electric clutch and every thing. He used his on a highly modified jeep to air up tires. I'll keep you'all posted if I figure anything out. Thanks Scott
