I just became a member so I have a lot of questions and concerns.

Anyways, about 2 weeks ago when I fired up my truck I smelled what seemed to be urine coming out of the vents. This smell has been there ever since and I don't know what to do about it. It seems that the smell is there only when the AC is recirculating. This can't be normal and I don't want to live with it. What can be done? Is this common and a warranty issue?

It's common. One way to get rid of it is to spray Lysol disinfectant into the inlet at the base of your windshield with the a/c running to kill the bugs. To keep the smell from returning turn your a/c off a few minutes before you shut down for the night and just run the vent. The vent air will dry up the moisture that the stinking fungus/bacteria breed in.

The 98 I had was bad about doing that till I started turning my ac off and just running the vent before I shut it off. I been doing that on this one since I have had it and it has not had the smell yet.

illfem hit the nail on the head do what he suggests.

Watch the local cats. I've seen them jump up on the hood, then take aim at the windshield. BAM!!! Stink. This used up all 9 of their lives. :D

I run my vent a lot, but when I use the A/C, I usually run it on Max A/C.

I've noticed that if I dont use the "regular" A/C, it will stink a little when I do end up using it.

If I alternate a little on the vent controls, it helps.

One teaspoon of bleach and a cup of water in a spray bottle Remove the glove box lid (no tools needed), manually open the recird door, and spritz in a good bit of the mix whilst the fan is running to spread the mix to *some* degree. Let it sit overnight and the smell should be gone the next day.
