Air Conditioner POS

Well I 've finally had it with the 2003 A/C unit. Truck will cool fine for a couple of hours & then it turns warm, no cooling just warm air. Dealer says it is just the humidity that causes the a/c unit to blow condinsation out the vents. Well the first time it happened I opened the hood & the system was iced over, so I let it off for a couple of hours & it worked fine for a few more Hours & froze up again. Dealer replaced dryer, evaporator and a couple of lines. Now dealer just says nothing wrong with it & they all do it. that is vapor blowing out the vents & not cooling for a 1/2 hour or so. My other 2003 does not do this & neither does the 2002. Is anyone else having this problem & if so, what did the dealer find wrong? This is getting kinda old.

Is it doing it in the 2 recirc settings? In the high humidity we have here in San Antonio, Texas area. . mine will do the same if not in the recirc positions. Then it works fine. . Blows ice cold.

Since your other two truck are fine under similar conditions your dealer is full of bull dung. Tell him to fix it.

tell dlr to check fin sensor it turns compressor off to keep from icing up. it is located on the evaporator core. it may have fell off the core or it may be bad.

Mine does that too. Dealer no help either.

It's proably too obvious to ask but is the evaporator drain clear?

In south Florida, mine will ice up and blow warm air if on a fresh air setting. Works fine on recirculate. But if it's iced up, don't expect it to start working when you flip it to recirculate. You'll have to run it with the compressor off until it thaws out. :--)

Like Robertyoke said, have them check or replace the fin temp sensor. It is the sensors job to not let the evaporator freeze up. If it does happen to freeze up, just turn off the compressor (keep the fan on high to move warm air through the evaporator) for a minute or two and the ice will melt off quickly. No need to shut it off for much more than that. Then run on recirc to keep the humidity load from icing the evaporator again. The problem is we all want icy cold air under all conditions, but the reality is an icy evaporator and high humidity=block ice. Never could figure out why anyone wants to live in Florida in the summer anyway. Move to California and enjoy nice weather all year without the humidity.

Sometimes you just have to be a bit smarter than the truck!
