Okay gang, time to test your knowledge. When I twist on the air switch to the standard setting, blowing on feet and the dash, without the switch being on the air conditioning setting, I can hear the air conditioning unit switching on and off. I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think that this should be happening with the switch not being on the air setting. I was getting really terrible economy with the truck, and I attribute some of this to this problem. Where should I be looking first? Does anyone know of any simple tests to run myself to see what the problem might be? Now I just use my 5 at 55 air condition system(arm out the window at 55mph)...

What you are experiencing is normal. The A/C will cycle on every setting except the setting to blow air in your face.

I rememeber seeing some threads quite some time ago about some guys had found what wire controls this, then they cut it and wired it into a switch thus giving them control.

I know that my truck gets the same mileage with the A/C on as it does with it off.

Are you getting cold air out of the ducts? I had the problem of the switch turning on, then turning back off just as fast. What causes this, is the lack of refrigerant in the system. There is a sensor that will shut down the system if there isn't enough refrigerant present. If you are lacking the cold air, take it to a specialist and have it recharged and have the dye added so that you can see if there are any leaks.

Ya know what, that might be the problem. I turned the air on the other day when it finally got to about 75 here, and no cold air. I'll have to get it back to the Dodge place here to get it serviced. I also need to have the speedo flashed for larger tires, so I'll kill two birds with one stone... I didn't realize this could be a problem. Excellent advice. Thank you both for the help! :D
