Starting last sommer my air conditioning stoped blowing cold air. It blows cool air instead. Now when I have the defrost on I can hear the A/C pump cycle as i is supposed to, but it does it real fast. Could this be a freon level issue? And if it is, do I have to convert to that new coolant?

I know this is a poor time of the year to be worried about something like this but , being the kind of person that likes to get the jump on things, I've decided now is the time to take care of this issue. And not to mention that my truck is all black and in the summer it turns into an oven in about 5 seconds.

So, if any of you guys out there in truckdum have any ideas about things for me to check I would be forever greatful.

Thanks

low freon will cause this until it will shut off totatly as a failsafe. need to check for leaks etc. Does yours say it on hood sticker if it's a r12 or r134a system?I thought 91 was a mix match year for whick gas was used, some of the conversion process on lots of auto's was really easy and not costly. You need a good ac tech to check system.

Unless somebody converted the system before you got the truck it is an R-12 system. Dodge didn't change the trucks over until the 2nd gens came out. It sounds like your system is about a pound low. Make sure you have a reputable and experienced A/C shop do the work. There are some shops out there that still have a good stockpile of R-12. If you can find one of these shops this will give you the best performance as our systems are kind of marginal for conversions.

If you end up having it converted, make sure the shop doing it flushes the system, changes the receiver/dryer, and installs a high pressure cut out switch. If these steps are not taken you will have a very high chance of compressor failure. You don't want to find out what one of these compressors cost for our diesels.

Just my professional opinion,

Paul

Dave I have been led to believe that you should not have a problem getting r12 in WA. state, but seeings as the ac shops have noticed a lot of us from north of the 48th coming down for service the price has jumped on the r12. Be interested to see how you make out. Bill
