i have gotten to know my service guys pretty well and dealt with the service manager the last time and he had his shop foreman or whatever you want to call him work on my truck the last time. i was having the same problems u guys are. well its fixed now. i guess there is an update for the ecm that controls the ac area. mine was almost a half pound low on coolant which they added. no freezing up no hot air. only problem is there is still a little flow volume difference between the two sides but i can live with that. atleast i get cold air both sides all the time. hope that helps!! by the way i have an 03.

DPK, OK, the tech or service writer called Star & described what was happening... star told them to replace the sensor and to recharge the system.

OK are you ready for this..... cost, just over 1000. $$$ ! I said OK, no problem I have the extended warranty, which should cover this. I get a call back 2 hours later and the service writer says the extended warranty doesn't cover the sensor... I pull out my contract and every A/C part you can think of is included in the warranty except for the word sensor, I called the 3rd party warranty company and tried to figure out a way around this, but they won't budge plus they told me the sensor is only a $24. part. what is the refrigerant another 20 bucks or so? What is this dealer trying to pull, charging me over 950. just for labor??? :-{}

Any suggestions??? How hard is it to change the sensor myself?

Come to the drags @ palmdale on the 24th. . I will tell you how to do this the easy way

Bob

Bob, Thanks for the offer, I was kind of planning on making the drags anyway... but now I have an added bonus!

I bought an 11 oz. bottle of refrigerant which came with the gauges/connectors/hose for the A/C, for $35. I added more refrig. myself... . Then took my truck on a trip to the Sierras north of Fresno, pulling a jeep through Bakersfield and Fresno about 105 deg... . guess what, the A/C worked perfectly! I sure am glad I didn't give the dealer over 1k to fix the prob. !

truck ac stoped working again today, drove it right to dealer, opened hood and condenser was frozen, they said they would order new sensors and there are two of them?

Air conditioner problem

Well, I have posted about this for over a year now. Here is what is happening. I now have an attorney from D. C. contacting me. He said that he has been in touch with the dealer and that they cant repair my trucks A/C. The 12 degree temp difference is now a problem they cant solve. He asked me what I would like done about it. I said 1) fix the truck 2) put me in a comparable truck without the problem at no expense to me or 3) retro fit my truck to the dual zone system that does not seem to have this problem of being warmer on the passenger side. Well option 1 is not an option at this point. I asked about 2 but I dont think it will happen without me paying . I then asked about 3 and he said he would ask engineering. I got a call back and fould out it cant be done. At this point the D. C. attorney offered a $3000. 00 settlement to persue it elsewhere. I said no because if they cant fix it how can an independent shop? I later that day went on Alldata and got an exploded view of the HVAC box assembly. Alldata did not specify if the box assembly was different between single or dual zone but I suspect it is. It has a passenger side and drivers side blend door acutator. Parts 3 & 8 for those who can get on the sight. I think the passenger side blend door acutator could be the problem if the Alldata image is correct. I faxed it to the attorney on Friday 10-14 and he said he would show it to engineering and get back with me. Please tell me all your thoughts.

Thanks,

Chuck

Had same a/c problem

Mine (2003) Ram quad cab- did the same last summer in Las Vegas. I found a Dodge dealer that knew that when the system is low on free-on it defults to the drivers side leaving passangers side warmer. Solution -system is low and needs recharged . Sure worked in my case. -Dan

simple solution

When system is low of free-on the computer defults the system to the drivers side leaving the passangers side quite a bit warmer. Have the system recharged and it should take care of this problem . . -Dan

You SURE about this DEFAULT thing? Sounds like evaportor core not flowing freon correctly. Someone posted that a UPDATED core was being used?

Not really :-laf :-laf ... ... ... ..... no computer involved,it's just the way that the lower volume of r-134 flows through the evap

Bob

How about low air volume out of the ducts? I haver a 04. 5 w/ single zone a/c. On high it just doesn't seem to have the air preasure I think it should. Way less than my 03 with dual temp controls.

If it is after running a while ck for evap freeze-up

Bob

Well I thought I would chime in here with my experiences thus far on these AC issues. Mine is a 03 with the dual temp controls. In the summer of 04 the AC rad sprung a leak, fixed under warrenty. Summer 05 my evaporator coil ices up and restricts air flow through the coil. This problem in a home AC system is indicative to a partial charge loss. DC dealer while I was on the road said the charge was fine and the AC was in working order. Moronic idiots to say the least. Temporary solution until I got home was to shut the AC down for 1/2 hr until the ice melted and then go again. You can actually hear the chunks of ice falling off the coil.

My warrenty is up so my local mechanic who is trustworthy and persistant has diagnosed the sensor problem. It is a cheap part but labour intensive to install as noted in previous posts. I haven't had the work done yet as we are in the thralls of winter here. So I'am saving my money until spring.

Thanks to all you guys who have added info on this problem. I have made notes and will tell my mechanic the finer points of what I've learned to aid in getting the problem solved once and for all. This ice 32 sounds interesting we'll give that a look see as well. Pete

Had the fin temp replaced on mine. Have NOT taken a long enough trip in hot weather to see if repaired from freezing. BUT in hot weather(short trips)what mine does do is when stopping the RIGHT side vents shoot almost to outside ambient temps(left side stays low)and as you start off it drops to match left side. If its 90 degrees out you get a blast of 87 degree heat etc. Still has a PROBLEM.
