Archived Air Conditioning

You may not think this is an emergency but with our daily temps runng in the mid-100s, it is to me.



My A/C quit working and the shop just called and said the A/C core in the dash is leaking freon and they want $1,300 :--) to replace it. Anybody had to have this done? What did it cost? Did you do it yourself, if so how big of PITA is it.

Oh you can do it yourself. 12 hours later and the entire dash out later and you are gold. I think the Evaporator is 660. and the rest is labor and misc screws and o rings / draw vaccum and charge.

Hey ToolMan thanks for the quick replies. I was in shock at the $1,300 news and didn't even think about doing a search. I called another shop and asked them to give me an estimate for the stated problem and they came in at $900. Therefore, I went and got the truck from the $1,300 shop and am just trying to decide whether to do it myself or take it in. At $900, I think I would still save $500 in labor doing it myself. It's just really hot out to be spending 12 hours on my head under the dash. On top of that, you don't know if you got a bad evaporator from the parts house until it's too late... ..... much too late.



If I were to do this myself, is the Haines manual adequate or does a guy need the Dodge shop manual?

I don't how different our rigs are but I had mine changed and it only cost me $650. They did it in one day. I would have done it myself but by the time you buy the tools for the fittings, a vacuum pump to eliminate air in the system, and then recharge it. It was worth it to me to have it done. Besides, taking the dash even partially out is a real PIA!!!
