Oil Leak help please

I blew the 20 amp fuse two days ago on my AD pump realizing that something was wrong when my FP gauge whent to 0 all of a sudden. Installed a new fuse and it blew again. I change the filter every oil change which is probably overkill every 5000 miles but it gives me piece of mind. I changed the filter about a month ago and i did it again today just in case i got a bad batch of fuel but it still seems to be doing it. I'm guessing the motor may be bad and i should contact pureflow. I also took off the cap and cleaned the georator but it was pretty clean to begin with. Any other suggestions?

PS one thing i did notice is a little corrosion on the + wire to the battery. Would that cause a fuse to blow?

Corrosion shouldnt cause the fuse to blow... Try unplugging the motor and replacing the fuse then turn the key on... If it blows its a wiring issue, if not its the motor...

I would be more apt to look for an opening in the wire harness, a wire that has rubbed through the insulation and is contacting metal somewhere?

Good luck, I think most on here know those electrical issues can drive you nuts trying to sort out.

I followed the wiring and its all in good shape and inside of the black plastic cover. I have been doing some research and it seams like quite a few people have had this problem and it was the motor itself. Seems like if you sent back the warranty paperwork people received a new motor within 3 days. I don't remember if i did my warranty. Called Air Dog and left a message waiting for a call back now. Thanks guys i'll keep you posted as to what the solutions is to this problem.

I had the same problem with mine, but mine was after the warranty was out,Blew the fuse, replaced it and it ran fine for a day, then nothing, didn't even blow the fuse this time, motor just went,Good luck with pureflow,Monte

Hey Monte thanks for chiming in. Can you anwser a couple questions for me if you have time? How much did you wind up paying for the motor without the warranty? Also when you say your warranty was out what exactly do you mean? AD is suppose to be warrantied for LIFE.

I don't like to bash anybody but after doing some research on the net it amazed me how many people have had this problem. When i purchased my AD one of the reasons i did is for longevity so i didn't have to worry about my so called "problematic in tank pump" and i know people who have over 200,000 miles on their stock in tank pump and here i am 60,000 miles later. Well you live and learn i guess, i always seem to learn the heard way... Anyway i guess i should have left my in tank pump accessable so that i could switch to it in case my life time warranty pump crapped out. My fault.

Anyone know of a quick fix until i can resolve this with AD? Maybe a cheap pump i can purchase localy and throw in for the time being? Its my daily driver and i hate to run it on the CP3 alone. Not sure if i can damage it in the long run.

I bought mine off ebay from a company in Salt lake City, Utah, I couldn't get them to replace it, said it was out of warranty, I hooked back up to my intank pump, have not replaced the motor yet, trying to find one, mine ran on the cp alone for awhile, just when i really jumped on it, it hesitated for a second , then picked up pretty good, If you find one let me know so i can fix mine too, Thanks, Monte

I just read a post on here where someone had a similar problem and purchased a diesel transfer pump from a local autoparts store and plummed it inline. Would i be able to do the same? I dont see why not right?

Update: Josh from AD called me this morning and i missed his call. I've been trying to get him all day and he has been on the phone all day so i left him another message. Hopefully this time i won't miss his call. On another note my buddy has a brand new in the box holley black electric fuel pump. It flows 120 gph at 9 psi and is adjustable to 14 psi. I did some research and found a bunch of guys using these pumps on their duramaxes. One guy inparticular has a holley blue on his truck for 5 years now and his wife's truck a holley black supporting 600 rwh for two years now with no issues. It does not say anywhere that this pump is compatable with diesel fuel but gasoline, alcohol, methanol. He is drooping it off to me in a little while and i'm going to install it tomorrow morning. He's charging me $25 for it and i checked the price on Summit it is $167. Kind of a sweet deal to pass up. I will report back once installed. Thanks and please let me know if you had any experience with this type of pump on your truck or someone you know.

I ran a holley blue pump for a booster pump on my 2001 cummins, worked great, i use it now to pump diesel fuel out of my aux. tank into the reg. tank, Monte

Ok this is what i did for now and it seems to be working great so far. This pump is a 14psi preset pump and my gauge is showing 13. 5 psi. I did a permanent mount so that i could leave it in once i replace the AD motor and switch to it in case i have a problem again with the AD pump. Not much luck with Air Dog, it seems like i don't have a warranty since i didn't turn in my paperwork. Kind of foolish of me so i think i will be stuck paying the full price for the motor. I beleive its somewhere around $150. Anyway i left Josh a message with the serial number and haven't herd back yet. If i don't hear from them by tuesday i'm going to call and order the pump on my own. this setup seems to be working fine i'm tempted to leave it for a while i just don't trust the holley pump too much. I've had many problems with them in the past and i switched over to mallory and aeromotive on my race car, but i just couldn't pass up this deal for $25. Thanks for the replies

Yes i wired it into the AD plug this way it utilizes the relay and fuse on the AD wiring harness and pump turns on with ignition on.

One thing i forgot, when i first hooked it up the Holley pump sounded like it was pulsating. So i opened the plate with the four alen bolts on the back of the motor and removed the internals and now the Holley is just steadily buzzing. I guess it was restricted a bit by the AD.

Yea its pretty good but honestly if you were to do this for some reason i would stay away from the china made holley pumps. The pump i'm using is preset to 14psi. I'm getting 14psi cruising and idle, and at WOT it goes down to 11psi. My AD pump used to go down 1 psi at WOT. I'm happy with it as a temp. set up and in case of emergency but like i said don't get a holley pump if you're going to do something similar. I've had bad experiences with them leaking on me and their priced the same as some of the better pumps. I like Carter, Walbro, Aeromotive and Mallory.

I've been running the Holley blue pump on my aux. tank and on the 2001 ctd for over 9 yrs. it still seems to work ok, no leaks,Monte
