... the FASS is a hydraulic filter and is 3um absolute.

By the specs, the HF6604 is 1 micron at 98. 6% and 3 micron at 99. 5%. "Absolute" is considered to be 98. 6% efficiency...

And I don't even want to get into the discussion of how the factory system is inferior with respect to water.

Per fleetguard the HF6604 is 98. 7%(absolute) at 3um and 1um at 95%. . not sure where you got your data, but I got mine 3 weeks ago from Fleetguard.

As far as the f/w sep. . you can't even begin to discuss it because not even Fleetguard knows the ratings of the filter being used. The only thing better about the f/w sep is that its pre-pump... but as far as specs, its all speculation. And thats on the 150... I already posted the dismal specs on the AD and the FASS 95... Airdog has said that now that they are aware of the short comings they are working on a solution with Fleetguard. .

As is I'm not confused enough. I understand there is an Air Dog II. From what I understand, this model eliminates the draw straw. I do not know what other differences there are. How does this model compare to the FASS and original Air Dog?

The ADII is internally regulated and doesn't flow near the amount, if any, of fuel back to the tank from the pump.

The pickup option isn't specific to the ADII and can be used on any of the systems... . The ADII uses the same filters as the AD.

AH64ID,

Is this correct, using a FASS 150/95 I could upgrade the f/w separator filter to one that meets or exceeds the OEM requirement? Do you know what filter that would be?

“The FASS with the 150 series filters is the best bet, you can change the f/w sep to a better filter, the HF filters flow a ton and filter very well... and if you want to get 2um absolute you can just add a Cat filter after the FASS... Also you can choose a f/w sep that has a WIF sensor in it, so you don't have to lose that light. ”

Could the HF filter be replaced with CAT filter?

If that’s the case I could purchase a FASS 150/95 replace the HF filter with the CAT filter and replace the f/w separator filter with ??? and have a system that meets or exceeds the filtering requirements of the OEM spec plus removes entrained air and feeds the CP3 with 15-17psi of fuel. Is that correct?

The Baldwin BF1212 is 20um absolute and filters 95% of free and emulsified water.

I don't recall the numbers right now but there are several Baldwin or Fleetguard choices in the 10um to 20um range that filter 95% free and emulsified water that also have WIF sensors in them.

Could the HF filter be replaced with CAT filter?

No, different thread size... But the HF filter is actually quite good. 3um absolute and 95% at 1um... . While the Cat is 2um absolute the HF is still pretty darn good... If you wanted 2um you could always easily add it to the line to the CP3 for just a few bucks (I think bases are less than $20, plus fittings)...

WOW! I thought everything was good. I was going to order a FASS but with this reading, I need to do more research. AH64ID are you some kind of mechanic or has it been a lot of research. You have a lot of info. I am still new to the CTD. Learned a lot in a little time but STILL need to learn more. WOW!:--)

I missed this when I was comparing the FASS and Air Dog. The Air Dog uses a 1/2” fuel line while the FASS uses a 3/8” fuel line. Are you FASS guys increasing your fittings and fuel line to 1/2”?

Doc,

I almost talked myself into doing that, but part of the reason I want to go with the FASS or Air Dog is to removed the entrained air from the fuel.

Reading through various posts about the draw straws it seems some people have zero problems with fuel below a 1/4 tank while others have problems. It sounds like the Vulcan draw straw V eliminates these problems. Is it best just to go with the draw straw V right from the start?

I have had no problems at all with low fuel levels, well below 1/4 tank. I was very patient when measuring for the new pick up. I also chose to remove the bed as opposed to dropping the tank.
