hello,,, i just picked up my 01 and the previous owner installed an Air Dog fuel pump,, what kind of mainteneance is there if any? and am i supposed to drain water at all from one of the filters? what about replacing the filters at some point?

You might want to post this question in the engine and transmission section but I just installed an airdomyself and if all was understood correctly you should try to drain your water separator monthly. There are differing opinions on the filter itself. Some are religous with mileage and others watch for the pressure to decline. If you arent familiar with these diesel setups the water separator has a drain on the bottom that you can unscrew and will be the smaller canister and is on the tank side of the unit(the side the lines from the tank are located on). I think you will get more responses if you post this question in the engine and transmission forum. Mine is new but from everything i've read, good system.

Good Luck,

Mike

I check for water every couple months. Good fuel around here. Change filter at 20,000. I don't think it needed to be changed when but did it anyway only because it had been on the truck for 2 years... .

Should have done it sooner

I installed an Air Dog on my 2001 about a year ago after several OE fuel pump replacements. It was the best mod i've done and only wish I had done it sooner. I check for water occasionally and carry spare filters, which I could not find locally ,so purchased from Air Dog. I also plan to change them at somewhere around two years. I would also check hoses and wiring to make sure the installer did good job preventing them from rubbing frame/cab etc. Good Luck w/ new truck .
