Ok , I know there are several post in the archives about which air filter is your choice on the mighty cummins. I am looking at the K&N 0880 cone assy filter and the Psyscotty(sp?) . Which one has the loudest turbo whine? Best Performer? Cost comparison. This is my first post since computer problems plagued me!! I am back now and want to replace the factory box/filter.

Check-out the "Big Honking Air Filter Installed" thread.

The turbo noise from this filter is about the same as from a K&N or AFE replacement filter, and less than the K&N 0880.

I just got the K&N re0880 and I love it. Sounds like a Jet engine taking off... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ..... very cool:cool:

Sky, did you get the sock with it? I just called Advance Auto parts and they said there was no K & N RE-0880? Weird huh? Do you know the K&N part number and the sock number?

Thanks

Yes I got the pre-filter with it. I got mine from summit racing, seem to have very good prices. There phone number is 1-800-230-3030. Part number you want is:

KNN-RE-0880 (Filter)

KNN-RU-0210PK (Pre-filter/sock)

The prefilter is on back order until August 2nd, so I am waiting on that.

Hope this helps.

Just to clarify

Just in case you don't know, there are two "pre-filters" from K&N to cover the RE-0880.

The one Sky mentions is supposed to be an application for heavy dust exposures, and it supposedly restricts air-flow to the RE by ~10%. It kinda looks like a nylon stocking. (% of air-flow restriction numbers are from a K&N tech)

I have the 25-0880 which is a tight woven "foam" pre-filter that supposedly provides good overall protection at a loss of ~2% flow. This pre is by far the most used by TDR. This filter needs to be oiled lightly before installation. Best way to do this is use the K&N aerosol spray lightly on the surface of the filter, put in a gallon baggie... . less mess for your hands... . and "massage" it. Take it out of the bag and use a cotton bath towel to wipe down/squeeze out if it feels too slick. Remember, the RE comes pre-oiled and doesn't need oiling until it is serviced.

I have 13K on my K&N's with no off-road driving, except for a slow one mile trip on a gravel road in and out of my property. The RE looks just like it came out of the box when I peel back the pre and look at it. I think it will be a long time before I need to clean and re-oil the RE. I like this set-up.

As Sky says, Summit is a low cost source for these. The 25'r is about $20.

Thanks 24v-dsl, I didnt know this I didnt have the part number when i called and this is the pre-filter the person I talked to gave me. I want the other one so I will call and change it since the other was backorderd.

Thanks guys for all the information. I still need to get the 4" diameter 1" piece of pipe or PVC to put between the filter neck and inlet hose to keep from crushing it and I will be set.

Thanks

If you get the Psychotty kit, the pipe connector is included. Otherwise, Jannetty racing sells a connector to attatch the fiter to the hose.

Question about which pre-filter

Does the dust/nylon stocking pre-filter fit inside the Psychotty?

I don't think the foam one will.
