Air Filter Change Interval

This has come up before, but a heads up.

Just changed mine at 16,500 miles, about half of that towing. Filter minder was pulled down to about 65%. I was surprised at how dirty the air filter was since I do not drive off-road and don't drive places where dust is a problem. It appeared to have something similar to grease on it. Maybe this is normal for a diesel (this my first), but it appeared to be more than ready for replacement. I probably will think in terms of a 15,000 mile interval for replacement.

That filter minder is not much of an indication of how dirty the filter is. The one's on the early '03's show 35% right off the hop. They came out with a revised model later on in the year (stronger spring).

My indicator was pulling down to 35% from day one. When it went to 65% I checked the filter and it was too dirty for my taste so I replaced it at 12,000 miles. Looks like a yearly deal for me.
