I have a ProGuard 7 (AFE) Air intake. I wanted to go and clean it but can't seem to get my hands on the cleaning kit.

Can I use a K&N Filter Cleaning Kit on the AFE Filter? I would think that it is the same cleaning fluid and oil, just in a different bottle.

Can anyone help me. To order in an AFE it would take 2 weeks and I want to clean mine right away!

Also, is the oil used just a 10W oil, if it is I can get my hands on jugs of that stuff from work? Our Waukasha's have an oil bath of 10w oil on the air intake.

Thanks,

Dan

The cleaning materials would be the same. They are virtually identical filters. As to the reoiling material, I think it is something along the lines of a 10W. Maybe there is info on the K&N site.

Look on page 2 of Geno's Catalog 41, the AFE90-50000 Air Filter Cleaning Kit is listed for $9. 26. I have been thinking of putting the aFe filter on my truck, how do you like it? I am not planning to modify my muffler and wonder if there would be any positive effects. I had a K&N on my 98. 5 and couldn't tell much difference. Thanks for any info on the Afe.

goodwid, I don't want to tell you how to maintain your rig but unless you drive in really dusty conditions or go offroad then you probably don't need to clean your filter. Even though you have the Proguard 7, I would bet like other oiled filters that a little dirt will actually help to clean the air better.

Also, I belive the filter oil used by these companys is a specially formulated just for this kind of application. If I recall it gets "tacky" to grab the dirt. Therfore, I would not use the oil you have at work.

I agree, it does stay tacky and I think some filters come with a warning that says they may brake down if the wrong oil is applied. As for benefits, any after market washable filter will give a noticeable difference in throttle response and will add about 10 H. P. over the stocker.

Thanks for the feedback!

Dean: I've noticed a few differences with the AFE Filter!

- faster turbo spool

- as a result better throttle response

- my 2100 rpm vibration is almost gone

I'm not sure if Geno's delivers to Canada... . and what import duty's might apply... . does anyone know?

Rosco: My filter minder still only says 35% with the AFE (about 10K), when I had the OEM filter it was reading up to 80% after about 8K.

About 80% of my driving is on Gravel Roads and Dirt Lease Roads (lots of dust). The filter looks dirty... but maybe I should just use the filter minder as an indicator. I did read on the K&N Cleaning Kit that you could use a soft brush on it and then re-oil. I guess that sounds like an idea too?

Prairie Dog: Yes, I will stick (no pun intended) to the genuine supplied Oil..... no sense getting to cheap when I just spent a pile on the rig in the first place! Sounds like you had similar response to adding a aftermarket filter.

Thanks for the feedback,

dan
