While looking for my lost snorkel and ring, I found a very dirty air filter. I zipped down to the nearest High $$ auto parts store and bought a FramCA7640 replacement filter. I got it home only to discover it had NO Foam backing like the original one. It that foam important? Or just a DMC thing? I know I know get a K&N.

Looks like my Muffler & Resanator are about to fall off too.   :D :D

Jes,

I use the Fleetguard filter and it also has the foam. I have been told that it acts as a pre-filter, but I have also been advised by other TDR members that it simply acts to reduce sound and I should remove it to increase air flow.

I find that it catches a lot of fine dirt particles that consequently do not get through to the paper filter. I am watching with interest over time to see if the foam gets overly dirty/clogged before the paper filter shows signs of dirt before I decide if I want to remove it or not.

IMHO, All this forn is for is noise. Look at it it is open cell construction and would only filter out way bif stuff. If it was oiled it would filter alot better. But if you oil it when the paper portion will get soaked.

Noise only!!!
