how accurate is the monitor/gage that is attached to the air filter box ?? after changing the oil today i check the air filter and it is black and dirty yet the monitor/gage shows that it is working at 100% efficiency. i am going to change the filter, i am no expert but when something that is this dirty cannot be doing what it is designed for !!!!!!

change filter?

The filter is doing its job , test the reset , push it down , the filter should last at least 30000 miles or more . Believe it or not a dirty filter will filter better than a new one for some time before the restriction gets to the point of stoppage the minder will move only when restriction gets to the point of cutting off the air and the pressure will depress the spring and show movement . Some things you just have to trust . Change it if it makes you feel better and the cost is in line . Ron in Louisville Metro Kentucky. :-{} :)

What Ron said.

Sometimes the minders break internally and won't latch at the last restriction reading that it recorded. I take them off and put a suction to them to make sure they will latch, then reset it and reinstall it. I always check the function of the minder any time I'm doing a service if it does not show any filter restriction, just to make sure it is working.

The only filter minders I've run across that don't read right have had visible cracks on the outside or loose parts floating around inside.

I think the grommet on mine was leaking  and that may have gotten some dirt in the engine :( . But the big tube of red rtv tightened Oo. that puppy up
