I'm still in warranty and have no plans to go open element. Any difference between the OEM or Fleetguard air filters? Best place to get the OEM? There's a Cummins NW where I buy Fleetguard fuel/oil filters. Geno's wants about $14 for the Fleetguard and $20 for the OEM. What's the cost at the dealership?

i would go with the fleetguard before i even called the dealer. i assume the fleetguard are approved by dodge but it wouldnt hurt to find out for sure.

I would be careful with blanket statements - I would not count on your warranty covering sucking up dust if you are running an aftermarket filter.

I always use Fleetguard. Cummins just came out with the revised Fuel filter FS19800E that is 7 micron verses 10 micron for the FS19579. I called my local Cummins service center and they did not have the new part number. Ordered them from Geno's. I won't run anything but Fleetguard. Cummins made it, they know what it needs best. Why pay a premium to DC for a Fleetguard with a different paintjob and/or part number?

I'm running the new 7mic fuel filter. I figured DC made the airbox. Wasn't sure if the OEM air filter was a rebadged fleetguard.

Awhile back there was a post from a 3rd gen. owner about warranty denied due to poor air filtration using an aftermarket air filtration system I believe. At least restore the truck to stock before bring it in.

I don't know, as I have never bought anything but Fleetguard. DC may make the airbox, but who supplies the airflow specs? Cummins.

If DC and Cummins both supply filters, is DC going to OEM them from someone else to Cummins specs? I doubt it.

The air filter in my 04. 5 truck new was apparently supplied by DC, and it did not include foam pre-filter. Every Fleetguard I have ever purchased has. Don't know how much difference it makes, but that is one difference that I know of.

My air filter is original and has the foam pre-filter material. It is getting replaced fri. with a Fleetgard.

Hopefully the filter minder will quit sucking down with a new filter. Only 13k miles on the truck.

Don't count on it. I can put a brand new Fleetguard air filter in, go for a drive, and filter minder will pull down 1/3 of the range - if I get in it.

There was a discussion here recently on the filter minders, flow rates of the filter, and flow rates of the factory airbox. It even touched on the flow specs from Cummins. It appears the airbox definitely contributes to the air restriction the filter minder sees. I personally know of one truck with the bottom of the airbox ducted to front bumper foglight hole - the filter minder is now bottomed out (no restriction) with a new filter (with the foam prefilter).

Just stopped by Cummins NW. They had one in stock for my 06'. It came with the foam. Couldv'e been old stock? I'm towing over the mountains this weekend. I'll know if it pulls down the filterminder. Later this summer when time permits I might do the additional 4" hole air redirect.

I put the 4" hole in the bottom of the filter box with the ductwork down to the bumper and it would still pull the filter minder in a little at WOT. After that I put the new Amsoil air filter in and it no longer pulls the filter minder in at all. I can't even see any drop in suction pressure to the turbo until I get up to 10 psi boost and there will be A LITTLE restriction... but not much.

Try the Amsoil "Synthetic Nano-Fiber" air filter, which fits the standard OEM box. It will breath much better, filter out the dirt better, and has a 4 year/100,000 mile warranty. It is cleanable using a vacuum or low pressure shop air. Was tested at (SWRI) Southwest Research Institute for 120,000 miles and was still 99 percent efficient after 4 cleanings.

Will not void the factory warranty!

I just bought a new air filter with foam at Cummins-NW here in Anchorage. PN. AF25541 for $20. 25.

Also bought 2 fuel filters, 7 mc, PN FS19800E for $13. 35 ea. Will not put one in until the new fuel, low sulphur, comes out.

If you are a Cummins Power Booster you get a real nice halogen flashlight for buying from them this month :)

Towed the Jeep through the mountains this last weekend at 65mph. Didn't budge the filterminder with the new filter. Looking at the price of the air intake systems the Amsoil drop in with the modified stock box sounds pretty good.
