Google air intake systems or air filter systems for your year truck and you'll find all your options. Nothing else out there which isnt homemade.

A friend has a 3rd gen and he's offered to swing by the next time he's in town. Says that the 3rd gen filter assemblies lift out pretty easily for a comparison.

Without knowing your specific filter, Donaldson makes some of the best elements on the market. They supply OEM filtration to a large percentage of heavy equipment manufacturers. Their newer elements with the nanofiber technology is at the forefront in terms of dirt holding capacity and efficiency ratings.

There are a few other options out there. S&B makes a very nice enclosed intake that you can get with a dry filter. Then I believe AFE makes a good dry filter. It's been a while since I researched this, but as I recall, none of those aftermarket filters have as good of ratings as the OEM. I don't remember any numbers right now, but I believe the Donaldson BHAF was better than anything else I found, possibly better even than the OEM....
OP I apologize for derailing your thread. I just wanted to point out that the BHAF is so popular for a reason and that you do not have many options.

Sample oil every other change never had high silicon levels
No surprise to me. As I pointed out BHAF is a generic term for any big paper filter. Some are good, some not, just like any other after market part. I'm curious what the silicon numbers have been for you.

The last sample I did was still with the oem box and silicon was at 3 with a 5000 mile change interval

I have samples with the bhaf but I did the last couple through John Deere and they don't mail a copy of the report its just on line . I am going to pull a sample this time as the oil has been in for about 12,000 miles

The ones from Cummins are e-mailed to me as well. I'm not asking for a picture, just the number.

Well I'm no closer to resolving this, but I do have further data. Just finished a 3600 mile tour thru UT, WY, MT ID, NV, & CA with a CarQuest (Wix) filter in place. Very little in the way of dirt roads and the minder is at about 40% now. I would venture that purely in terms of how fast it plugs up that the Wix filter is better than the Fleetguard filter. Due for an oil change, so now I'll look into getting a sample sent out.

Less restrictive filters often come at the expense of filtration efficiency. At one time Wix did not meet Cummins efficiency requirements so I'd be careful running them.

This is all pretty frustrating. Wix seems to be fine for everyone else. They're even held up as one of the best that can be easily bought in some circles. Screw it! The engine has gone 346k on what appears to have been a K&N exclusively, I doubt I can screw it up that badly.

Hmmm..... Since you're still using an OEM airbox which routes to the inner fender, have you checked to see if there's something missing or damaged in that draw area? Seems odd to me that it would pull so much dirt so quickly no matter what filter you have on there. Especially since that air coming from the inner fender is supposed to offer cleaner cooler air. Maybe you're unknowingly picking up too much dirt directly from the front tire.

I don't know this was right after I bought the truck and it had been neglected on service I've got a sample With Donaldson filter with 11750 miles on the oil I will post results as quick as they get back

I question the accurate functionality of your filter minder. Do you have a friend with a similar truck that you could swap with to compare? I don't know how much a new minder would cost.

Remember that as an element begins to get dirty it's gets more effecient. Until that indicator starts locking into the red zone I would not spare it a second thought. Plus your intake system intregrity is good. I get nervous when the restriction gauge never moves.
