02 HO with phat shaft 62--how will it work?

Wastegate size??

I recently took my truck into the dealership for servicing and asked the service rep about an aftermarket air filter. He told me that "oiled" filters are not recommended because they can clog the map sensor and eventualy cause build up on the intake. Has anyone had problems with this or even heard the same story?

Thanks

Some have had problems and some have not. What the dealer told you, I believe has happened. To my understanding, it is mostly due to over oiling. There are those who swear by them and have had no problems at all. I have used them for a few years in my first gen until I found fine dust in the intake tube from the filter to the turbo and oil in the intercooler piping (I probably over oiled). Regardless, I prefer paper filters (BHAF) as the air flow is good and it keeps the dust out. ;)

I have replaced numerous MAF sensors on gas powered Fords over the years that had oiled filters. Can't say for sure if it was the oil that killed them but a MAF sensor won't tolerate contamination. I have not heard of trouble with the Diesels MAP sensors but isn't it TST that recommends against them and the owner is a former Cummins Engineer.

The trouble with oiled filters is you really need two so one can be cleaned and dried the proper way without taking the vehicle out of service. If you get too much oil on them they will clog and restrict flow, too little and they pass dirt.

Lots like em and lots dislike em.

Well, for those who are curious, I put my BHAF fleetgard filter on the flow bench today. I did it to see if my filterminder install would leak.

It flowed 600+ cfm at 0" depression. Normal flow is measured at 28" depression. So, at 600 cfm, it was producing no vacuum at all.

Long story short--It flowed more air than the superflow bench could accurately measure.

It would be interesting to see how the 8" would flow since its a better fit than the 10"

Don't know, but if ya send me one, I will test it and send it back to ya.

Don't see the better fit tho, as mine fits perfectly.

I bought one for my 03 and didn't like the fit, too cramped IMO. I know others have stuffed them in a 3rd gen. With the open style filter I wouldn't want any contact that could rub through from vibrations. I might take you up on that 8" test. I don't have one but may look into it if it would flow significantly better than stock.
