I just pulled out my air filter and the bottom piece of thin foam rubber was in a million pieces just flying around. Looked like a rat or something ate it. Has anyone seen this or have any idea what may have caused it. the filter was a Mopar and was about 10K old. Hate to think my engine has been eating thease little pieces of foam. thanks. .

It won't get through the paper. A mechanic friend of mine pulls that foam off the filter for that very reason (not to mention the restriction it puts on airflow).

The airbox does make a nice mouse house. I ended up having to pop-rivet some 1/4" screen over my inlet to keep them out. Couldn't figure out where my power went one day till I popped the box, damn rodents had stuffed the airbox full of insulation they ripped off the hood.

You need some barn cats illflem... . We are down to two or three because the coyotes get them. We have one female and my wife said she is in heat. I said I hope she gets pregnant because we are getting pretty low.

Jim, cats don't last long for me either, owls get them too. I finally decided last time I ran out of cats that I rather have mice than muddy paw prints all over my windshield every day.

Mice don't like.....

Get some Downey/Bounce... . fabric softeners... the kind you throw in the dryer. Stuff them in places around the engine compartment where they will stay. The "fragrance" wears off in a few weeks, but from my experience they work.

Thanks for the info guys. Now that I look closer, a lot of my hood insulation is missing as well. I thought it was from the heat of the engine but, after reading Illflems post, it could be a rodent. I'lll try the fabric softner sugesstion. Thanks again...

Leave the windows open and maybe the cats won't walk on them :) Besides, if you want a cat to keep the rodents out of the engine compartment, don't you have to let the cats under the hood? I wonder if you can hear a cat howl over the sound of a diesel engine. Maybe that's why you guys are missing all your cats :D

Doc

Worse than an airbox

I had the rodents fill the clutch housing on a Ford that was parked over winter with walnuts. They were packed in so tight that the clutch wouldn't release, had to drop the transmission to remove them.

Black cats seem to last longer due to nighttime camo.

If you think rodents (squirells/rats) are getting under your hood, don't wait long to take action. I just replaced the entire wiring harness on my tractor after the little critters ate off all the wires on the dash including the gauge backs. They even ate a hole in the battery.

rodents

I have a house cat. At times she runs out of the house. The next day paw prints are all over my Jeep. I don't mind that so much but she gets on the soft top. That concerns me that she might put holes in it with her claws.

I haven't sen any signs of rodents in the truck or any of the vehicles yet. Guess I should let her out atleast once or twice a week. :D

I hooked a fence charger to my wifes car one Sat. morning to teach her cats to stay off the car. It worked GREAT!!!:-laf :-laf Didn't hurt the cat, he got over it after a few days, and didn't want ANYTHING to do with any of the automobiles.

Not a recomendation, just a thought, You know those Doo Gooders! R. C.

RCrawford, how did you use the fence charger on the car?My cats jump ont,and off the hood,if they arent touching ground and the car,at the same time they wont get zapped,at least this s what i thought. There are lots of birds perched on our 9-13K bare overhead power wires that dont get zapped. I wish it would zap them once, they like to "paint" my truck with their #2.

ROFLMFAO

One time my friend was having troubles with a dog in the garbage , I told him to hook up a extention cord up to the can and wait in the garage for the dog to show:eek: well it did and when the dog started wizzing on the can he plugged it in:eek: :-laf :eek: , holy cripes I bet that hurt. But no more dog problem, the dog prolly cant make no pups either, heck he prolly cant even get it up :{ :{ :{

Be careful connecting fence chargers to your rig. It worked excellent for a buddy to cure his dog from whizzing on his Honda's tires but in the meantime did $600 worth of damage to his onboard computer.

Reminds me of the time our cat was missing when I was a kid. Next thing you know, the Buick had an awful smell. Seems the cat found the straight eiht was a warm place to sleep. Apparently she got woke up by the spark plugs and decapitated by the fan!

The Fence Charger

The car was an '86 Olds Cutlass. It had an on-board computer. I thought and thought, and finaly got mad enough that it didn't matter what happened. This was in '86, so I'm going from memory, which is somewhat lacking anymore. but i did disconnect the ground on the battery, I wasen't sure what would happen. when I reconnected the ground everything was OK. I hooked the charger to the bumper. These cats, there were two of them, must have smelled something on the bumper. The first one to the car kind of leaned up on the bumper to sniff whatever it was, maybe tuna or something, I'm sure I don't know, and ZAPPP!!!   The second cat didn't touch the car, but he knew he didn't want any of what his brother had sampeled. :--) :--) R. C. :-laf :-laf
