Hello All,

I need suggestions on replacing the Scotty type K&N w/oil soaked

pre-filter. I'm tired of cleaning and the messy oiling of the pre-filter

and the run off of oil on the fender down the frame.

Craig Schomer suggested Fleetguard #AF942M. But I would like something without brackets(or oil) or gluing on a piece for mounting.

Any help would be appreciated.

If you have oil running down your fenderwell, you have WAY too much oil of your filter. I have a RE-0880 in my truck and there is not a drop of oil anywhere. I have used them for over a decade in my vehicles and never had anything more then 1 or 2 drips. Unless you are driving in really dusty places, you should only have to clean your K&N like once every 30k miles or more. I have seen K&N's with 80k miles and they still looked clean.

Before you give up on it, clean it up real good and LIGHTLY oil it, you dont need much. Then, stand it on end and let it sit overnight on a piece of newspaper. Any exxcess will have dripped off and you can put it in your truck with out any drips.

I second what EMDDIESEL said I have the K&N with no scotty and it sets on the fender with no oil dripping for almost 5,000 miles now :D

Guys, I'm talking about the 25-0880 pre-filter used with foam air

filter oil. Squeeze, wring out,dab with paper towels it still drips for 2 weeks.

I know, the 25-0880, i have used them too, it should not be dripping everywhere. If it is, that oil is also being ingested. Try using even less oil. You dont need much on the prefilter, just clean the prefilter more often. Dont worry about the primary K&N that should only be cleand every 50k miles if you have a prefilter.

I vote to keep the K&N, as well. If the 25'r is so saturated you can't wring it out in as many bath towels as it takes, then I'd get a new one and start over. Be sure you check the RE for over oiling too, 'cause you may have sucked/dripped excess oil into that, as well, which could end up in the turbo. After 10K miles of basically street/hwy driving my 25'r shows very little dirt accumulation, and the RE under it looks brand new. I think this is a good set-up.

I do understand your problem. I over-oiled an open element K&N on a Dakota gasser, and it dripped into the filter housing base for months.
