I have to change my stock Air filter. Which one of the after market ones is the best. I do a lot of beach driving and highway driving. I used the K&N in my last two gas trucks. Do I stick with the stock shape or do I get the cone shape? Thanks to all Mike... ...

Go with the aFe instead of the K&N... better filtration. If you're gonna mod, go with the cold air kit w/cone filter and pre-filter (sock). Just be prepared for extra noise. If no mods are anticipated, go with the stock filter replacement style.

you should get more performance from the "cold" air system, (assuming it gets unheated, unrestricted airflow) due to less restriction. You will get more noise and a dirtier filter quicker due to the increased amount of air. Check Geno's Garage and aFe's sites for more info.

DC (read w-a-r-r-a-n-t-y) says don't use K&N... I have used them on prior vehicles, but won't on mine because DC specifically mentions it as voiding. .

I went with the AFE drop in replacement and am very happy with it. I was at a local TDR event at AFE and got to see testing and other aspects. The other day I was at my Dodge dealer and they were selling K&N filters at the parts counter and when I asked they said sure they had one for my 2003 diesel,go figure. Cummins you to have a note on their site about not using K&N and I sent the note to K&N because they are here in town and like you I always used their filters. Cummins has since dropped the note specifing K&N.

I am currently using the AFE drop-in.

When the stocker was in, I pulled the gauge down to %50 restriction with a stock engine.

With the AFE drop-in the guage has not moved!!

From past experience don't waste your time and get the AFE with the ProGuard 7 filter. I HAD an AirRaid system on mine, it fell off twice!!! Not because it wasn't tight, but because of poor design. I paid almost as much for it as the AFE and wish I had bought the AFE in the first place. :(
