I would like to know the best air filter to put in my truck. What choices do I have as far as non oiled. It is a stock 98 24 v auto 3500 that does quit a bit of towing. I have aways used the fleet guard, but have read since then that with out the pre-filter foam it does not meet the holding specification.

I use and like the Baldwim # 2820 BHAF I have had the K&N in the stock air box and found it a pain cleaning & oiling, with the BHAF you just use it up and through it away. You can get this style filter at most fleet or truck parts houses like NAPA.

When I first got my truck, the first thing I did was replace the air filter. I wasn't ready to buy a K&N or an equivalent yet so I just went to Advance and got a stock box OEM Purolator filter. It does have a foam prefilter and it only costs about $14 with tax down here. If you don't want to go high performance and spend about $100 for a fancy air filter setup, keep it simple and go with the Purolator, nothing wrong with them.

The foam thing is interesting. I bought my very first replacement filter from the dealer. Guess what no foam!!! Looks just like the filters that I bought later from cummins with no foam!

Where is this 'foam spec'????
