Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Air Filters?

What is a BHAF? I ve heard everyone talk about it but what is it and where can I find one?

Big Honkin Air filter. I used to be able to get them for $32. Last I ought them from NAPA it was up to $37. I use the NAPA 2790.



This guy has them .



I just ordered a replacement APPS from him, very pleasant to deal with and good prices.

It is worth the $$. I was able to add my filter minder too. Get some 3/16" fuel line to cover the studs after you remove your air box. It is a great filter, I have run off road in some very dusty conditions and have yet to clog it or see silicon levels >5PPM.



Whoever discovered it did us all a great job, and it connects directly into your turbo inlet tube.

I like the filter too. It makes it so I can hear the whistle of the Turbo just a tad more, and it feels like there is a power difference. There is a guy on EBAY that I bought one from. He includes a fuel filter and 2 oil filters from Wix.

I reccommend the heatshiled template, and the filter sleeve on dodgedieseldatabase .com

There are some excellent alternatives on the market aside from the BHAF. I chose the aFe Proguard 7 Stage I system. My EGT's are down marginally, maybe 50 degrees, but I can hear the sweet song of the turbo SO much better now... .

I like to run the AFE filter that goes to the 03 stage I kit, I got it at the dealership it cost me 84. 95 but you can by a cleaner kit for 20. and the filter lasts forever.

apply a short piece of 4" tubing between to clamp the filter, and the stock tube to.

I run the afe stage 2 with the pro guard 7 filter. It is a little pricey, but cools very well. I have heard a lot of good things about the BHAF though. I just preferred to have the filter covered a bit (cleaner look) by the housing with the stage 2. The turbo really sounds good at all stages and I can hear a good whistle at idle threw the tailpipes . Either choice you will be happy with!

are there any threads/ dynos that talk about real performance gain with change in air filters?

I don't know about real power gains. Most of the filter companies claim you'll get more power, but haven't really heard. Do a search and you're bound to find something. I thought I saw something a while back that said the factory filter was good up to 350hp and you really don't need anything more until you reach higher hp like 400+. I could be wrong, but heck..... I like mine simply for the extra turbo whistle and cooler egt's

Guys I have a Napa BHAF in the shop that I'll send to whoever wants it if you'll pay shipping. It's almost new. with intake tube. I went with the AFE.
