Calling all air horn owners!!!

Where are you guys mounting that big old compressor for your air horns?? I just bought a set that came with a compressor that has rubber isolation mounts and is quite stout. I am looking for a dry location as indicated in the directions but the engine bay is way too packed! The from fender supports don't look like a good place either, because of tight clearances and possible water exposure. It also looks like it should be mounted level since it has a port to add a drop of oil every now and then. I guess the rear bed under my tonn. cover is the only place??? Any suggestions?

I put mine on top of the power distribution box under the hood on the left fender.

I drilled 2 holes thru the plastic cover and bolted the pump to the cover. Did this to my 2000 and it worked fine for 3 years and I just did it to my 2002. I have the Grover air horn and there was enough room for the pump here and not hit the hood.

I put the air tank and horns on the frame rail, under the truck, behind the transmission on the inside of the rail. Again several years with no problem.

I hooked the air solenoid into the wire going to the regular horns.

With the keyless entry, when I hit the lock button I mostly hear just the regular horn with a little growl from the air horn. If I hit it again within a few seconds I get a much louder chirp. Of course when I hit the horn from inside the cab, all you hear are the air horns. But I still have the regular horns if something happens to my air horns.

I mounted my compressor on the reinforcment piece for the hood hinge on the drivers side , it was tricky and the comp is on its side but it is a out of the way spot and it works great... ... ... Kevin

Mounted my tank and compressor on a bracket I made out of alcoa. That is mounted on the driver side fender. Horn is mounted below the radiator.

I put my compressor behind the headlight on the left side in front of the battery. I had to take the battery box out to install it, then put the box back in.

bdaniel..... I too thought of this location and like it but, the EZ would have to find a new home. :D :D

Mine's under the drivers side battery. On my '01 I don't have a cruise control servo sitting there, so there's plenty of room. I had a '99 that had the servo sitting there, so I took the stock horns out from under the passenger side battery and mounted the compressor there.

Good luck,

Mike

Ditto on behind the light on the right side of the truck. My 98. 5 had a triangular looking mounting piece of metal there that the compressor's bolt pattern fit right into. I didn't have to drill any holes! Sweet...

Moved my stock horns (actually replaced them) to a point in front of the radiator and put the compressor where the stock horns were (behind the passenger's headlight).

mounted mine on a piece of sheet metal mounted to the firewall behind the stock airbox. Check out the readers rig section and look at the pics that I have posted.

I mounted my not so big Hadley compressor on the front side of the passenger side battery compartment. I used a piece of plate alum as a backing and it works well. I know it is hard to picture and I don't have a pic of it yet.

Mount it Where Stock Horns went

I go along with JGK! I mounted the compressor where the stock horns used to be (no holes drilled) and moved the stock horn up to an existing screw again no holes drilled. I have a Scotty air cleaner that allowed me to mount my air tank to the old air box bolts. My air horns are behind the left front of bumper. I ran a switch into the cab of the truck so I can turn off the air horns and use just the stock horn.

Worked out real good.
