Air Horn help

I want to install a set of air horns. I am looking for advice on the loudest ones on the market. I am a firefighter so I am used to the grovers on the fire truck. I would like to have something that loud. I want to conceal the trumpets so this is a factor on size.



Any adviceon brand and mounting instructions is appreciated.

I installed the Hadley bully system on my rig although I put them on the roof (camping world had the best price). The horns are not that long so I think they would fit under the front bumper. Loud? Well the first time I used them there was a young family crossing the street in front of me while I sat at a red lite. They were busy talking and were still in the middle of the cross walk when my light turned green, so I let em have it! I'm sure everyone had to hurry home & change!

They sure are nice when you're towing and you get some idiot who pulls out in front of you or someone who's driving in the passing lane but just poking along.

I'll second Ricksons

Their website is still under construction. Give them a call and ask for their air horn cataloge. They have a lot of choices inregards to horns and will sell you exactly what you want. I am going to add a set real soon, as soon as I decide which horns I'm going to use. My guess would be that you need a large bell for deep sound, they have Grover horns with bells as large as 6" in diameter. Check 'em out.

When I was an owner operator everyone had air horns.

What was really awesome was the train horns some guys had. WOW!!!

Does anyone know where these could be bought?

I have a single Hadley 26 inch long with 5 inch bell under the hood of my truck. It is on the driver's side, between the battery and P7100 pump, attached with zip ties. If I need to work on anything in that area, simple to just cut the ties and reattach with new ones. There is enough room to put a 29 incher with 6 inch bell. This horn sounds like those on a concrete truck. My wife just blasted it at a teenage kid skateboarding in the middle of a 45 mph road. His two friends moved on the side when they heard my truck, but he kept riding in the middle. After about 5 seconds of that, she gave him a five second blast. He moved on the side real fast and had his fingers shaking his ears while his 2 friends were laughing.

I want some train horns too !!! I have been dreaming of these for quite awhile. WHERE to get them?/ What kind of air suplly would these need?? (I assume an INCREDIBLE amount of air at INSANE PSI)

They are being sold on Ebay all the time... . Your going to need a good size air tank, large air lines, and valves to get the volume of air need to blow the horns. Finding a good mounting location should be fun, too. .

I have a single Grover 24" horn (they have the best "truck sound" - loud and low tone) with a 6" bell mounted in the cavity just in front of the passenger front wheel well, behind the headlight. There is a crossmember there that you can tie it to. If you want to mount two horns, put one on each side. Mount them with the bells down, to keep water out of the horns...

I see electric air horns in marine catalogs, the kind that do not use a supply tank. How do theses compair to say a Grover, pretty weak????

I don't know of ANY electric horn that will come close to the sound of a good air horn... Electric horns can make a lot of noise, but they are usually very high pitched, and sound like a cheap foreign car horn. There are some air horns sold with a tankless air pump, but you just can't get the volume of air needed to make it sound like a "big rig" horn...

A single Grover Stutter horn is more than adequate to clear

intersections. I've been using one for about two years now and it worth every penny I paid for it. I've got mine under the

radiator crossmember mounted traversly. It's tight against the

crossmember and higher up than the front bumper so it's protected from road debrie and TOTALLY out of sight too... .

The bell is pointed toward the drivers side and slightly down so water doesn't collect, and since it's NOT under the hood, the sound doesn't reverberate back into the cab, it goes where it's suppose to. Into the ears of mindless drivers!! Ahh, life is good.....

I'm also using one of my dive pony bottles for the air supply,

30 cu. ft. @ 3000psi. lasts about 3 months or so. Feel free to

e-mail me for more info. I truly think at times, the air horn does more good that the lights and siren... ... .....

I took the wimpy Hadley Bullys off my truck and added the Hadley Ambassadors. Now 18 wheelers pay attention. Mounting was easy. I put the tank behind the front crossmember, the compressor just behind the driver's wheelwell under the hood, and used BIG wire ties to attach the horns aiming diagonally down from the intake manifold to just rear of the front crossmember. Works great! MUCH louder and deeper than the Bullys!!! First time I used them when a guy in a BMW cut infront of me without looking, he almost lost control of the car after I hit the horns! I hope he was wearing Depends!

Don't know what the DB's are on that horn, but I had one of his other horn setups and it just plain hurt your ears to be next to it when it blew... The only reason I took it off my truck was that I wanted the sound tone you get from a good Grover horn... . Not as loud (one horn vs the 3 horn setup I had), but it sounds more like a big rig horn... You can email the guy on his site, if you want more particulars...
