Air Horn Install Questions...

Okay so I got my air horns that I purchased off ebay today. I have found a source for the air line I want and I have the compression fittings so now its time to figure out the eletrical stuff. I did not get any paper work with this set up so does anyone know what size fuse I need with the little air compressor (its a Hadley)? So after that I need to trigger the horn somehow. The set up I got came with a pull chain type valve but I want an electric solonoid set up. I figure that Johnson controls will have that so now I need to trigger it. Does anyone know if the horns on our trucks are neq switched or positive?? I want to use a realy to trigger the horns with the stock setup.

my hadley set up

has a 20 amp fuse... ... . i just used the horn wire to me solenoid.

no stock horn at all. i think JC Whitney may seel the hadley solenoid separate but im not sure... ... .

JR2, if you look at the harness for the OEM horns, you will see that the pigatil splits into 4 wires (two per horn). The blk wire is Gnd. and the wire with a stripe is the one you are after, tap into the striped wire for the power (powered only when you press the loud pad on your steering wheel) for the juice to the solenoid. Works great.

I will leach on to this post with my question as well.



I have been looking at some air horn sets and was wondering about the electric horns with their own little compressor but now tank.

Do these work at all? Are they loud?



My concern is that if I replace the factory hold with a set of air horns that everytime I arm the alarm on my truck it will blast the airs...



Anyone?

Depends on how fast the pump start pumping and how short the alarm honk is. If the honk is real short, you might only hear the pump spinning up for a moment then shutting down before any noise (or very little) is produced.

Bill, that's a good question and I'm not sure how much of note you would get when you arm. Can you disable the horn chirp like you can with the remote when you lock the doors ( first thing I did).



I can tell ya that hitting the panic button is the cats ***, fun for the whole family .

I did not know that you could disable the chrip that sound when you arm the system. Is that anywhere in the owners manual?

If it is disabled then the air horns would not be an issue at all. I could get any set up even with an air tank.

Horn chirp disable, right from the manual, here goes...



1) Place the key in ignition and turn the key to the ON position (do not start the engine).



2) Press and hold the UNLOCK button on the transmitter for 4 to 10 seconds.



3) While the UNLOCK button is pressed, press the LOCK button on the transmiiter and then release both buttons.



4) You will hear a single chime when the programming is completed.



5) to enable the feature again, follow the above steps.

Have a set of Hadley Ambassadors on my 3500. I did not worry about disconnecting the alarm set chirp. My set are wired into the oem horn circuit, when I set the alarm, I know it is set!



The only thing I have to watch for is people around the truck when I set it. The short blast will cause a startled :--) reaction to say the least!



The tank has plenty of pressure to blast the horns if the alarm is set off, another plus imho.

I actually disabled the horn beep on arming this morning. I just need to figure out which horns I want.



I know that they are not going to be great but has anyone tried the Hella electric horns?

I had a set of cheapie tankless horns that someone gave me about 15 years ago and I just held on to them. My OEM horn button on the wheel is so hard to push that I didn't want to use it. I just mounted a round horn button in the cab that works great. This horn set couldn't have cost more than $10 but it is so loud it will blow your socks down. The horns have a high-pitched irritating sound. Perfect!!

Well I got mine all installed and they sound great. Now if I could just get some one to pull out in front of me or sit at a green light... ...come on... someone...

Glad to see that they are up and running, I still find myself refilling the aux. tanks once a week or so and to date, no one has crossed my path . Just wait for the first kid you encounter to give you the universal 'blow your horns' signal, and you do... his face will look just like this while yours is looking like this .

driveing in Boulder City the other day. We have a old train museum and they give the tourist rides. The train runs along RT 95 I got up near it and gave them a blast on my Bully blasters and the train blew his back. What a HOOT!!!!!Oo. Oo.
