Air horn question

Would it be possible to run air horns off of a CO2 tank?? My friend had a small tank filled with CO2 for airing up after wheeling. I thought this would be great, no compressor and no wiring to worry about or pump to fail. Could I use this type of tank with the 3000 psi in it for the air horns?? I would use a regulator to keep the pressure in check.

I am just thinking out loud and trying to keep it simple. Oo.

I'm running a 10 gallon air tank to a lanyard valve, to my horns. No electrics and no pump. I air it up about once a month and my 5 year old son makes sure it gets plenty of "air" time.



You would DEFINETLY want to use a regulator.

I asked the same question. The reply that I got was it will work but the tone will be a little lower since CO2 is lighter that plain compressed air. I wish someone would see if it would make a big difference or not!

Not sure what CO2 costs, but Nitrogen might be an option too.

I run a nitrogen tank to run my horns just like hoots setup. I have an adjustable regulator set at 140 and it works great. I would think that almost any inert gas would work. Propane even crossed my mind... . it comes out the tank around 100psi. Can you say flaming horns!!



Ps I have been searching for a scuba compressor so I could refill my own tanks!

I had a big set of Grovers on my last truck and set them up like BigPapa 'cept I removed the existing horn and used that wire as a trip for a relay to open the solenoid to air the horns. It worked real well, had a 12 gallon tank in the bed with a quick disconnect in case I needed to remove the tank. My favorite was hitting the panic button on the key fob when a unexpecting friend walked too close to the front of the truck
