Air horns tie-in

Hi! So, I installed some air horns on my truck. Right now I am pulling directly off the battery, bypassing the stock horn. Power runs through the firewall, through a wire-wrap cord to a switch box which houses a lit LED toggle and a pushbutton momentary, then back though the firewall to the 12 volt solenoid.



What I would like to do is have the option:



1) Like it is now, stock horn separate from the air horn



2) Air horn and stock horn working simultaneously



All I want to do is switch between the two



What do you all recommend as the best way to go about this?



Be as specific as you can with the electrical terms. I know most but not everything.

Interrupt the signal for the air horn relay or solenoid valve (the stock horn positive) with a on/off switch. You can also have just the air with a momentary switch and a diode. Its late, let me think of how you could have stock, both or just air with just the stock steering wheel button.

I tied my air horns in to the stock horns by tapping in to both wires on 1 horn and running them to operate the air horns. If I were to want to choose between the 2, I would put a switch (Double throw single pole) in the system. Center terminal from the horn relay (truck) 1 side to the air horn and the other to the stock horn. But that would only give you the choice between the 2 horns. I sort of like having them both at the same time.

I wired mine to do that. What I did was the feed I used from the stock horn goes to a switch in the cab then back out to the air horn solenoid (I may have used a relay cant remember now for sure). Switch on both horns, switch off just stock horn. I used a lighted switch so I know if it is on or not. You are more than welcome to take a look see at how I wired it up.

My truck is not here right now but hope to have it back by the end of the week. Will be out of town the next few weekends but if you can swing by in the evening any weekday except Friday once it is back would be fine. I will let you know once it is back in the driveway and we can go from there.
