How would I know if there was an air pocket in my cooling system?

Cummins Power, don't leave home without it

If you see a big change in the coolent recovery system level this might be an indication that you had air in the system!

From a cold start you can leave the cap off and wait for the stat to open. Then rev the engine manually and this will "burp" the air out. Did you notice any leaking or something to give you an impression that something wasn't right?

Keep the shiny side up!

Also, if you think there is air in there, you can usually leave the radiator cap off with the engine running and it will "burp" itself. Remember, don't remove the cap with the engine hot #ad
.

No, I don't have a problem. I was curious as to how you would know it and hopefully how to avoid it. I would also think that any air in the system would purge out of the overflow tank via the opening at the top.
