Air Dog Installed!

Confused about twins!?!?!?

I'd like to know what others are using for your air intake on your twins, how it's plumbed and what filter you are using. I am trying to fit 5" plumbing from my air filter to the HT3B, but it sure is tight. I have an AFE 24-91026 filter, with a 6" outlet on it, currently adapted down to 5". I am also having problems finding flex hose I can use for this application that I can't collapse.

Specifications and pics would be great.

Thanks,

Chris

Try PVC

PVC worked well for me. Its cheap easy, to work with, has great insulating qualities to keep out the heat. The tight quaters around the oil filter,I was able to heat it with a heat gun and conform it around the filter.

once I have my cowl induction and airbox done, I will post a pic.

Thanks DF.

For the moment, I have had to drop back to 4", as that's all I have complete plumbing and a filter for.

Thanks,

Chris

I've got a filter with a 6" outlet, so I just stuff the intake hose inside and duct tape it off. It's been working great for 2 months.

Oh, and with this filter, the 4" intake hose is the biggest inlet restriction:)

Do you have twins? I sure didn't think this could happen, since that AFE fitler is supposed to be handle very high flow, but that HT3B had no problem sucking right in there. I hadn't even turned on the PM3 lately either.

Thanks,

Chris

No, I don't have twins. But I would put this filter up against anything that purports to filter at all.

The 6" outlet would be an ideal match to an HT3b. This filter flows 1000cfm at TERMINAL restriction! That is, when it's considered "full" of dirt.

See my thread "building a better BHAF" for pics, if you didn't see it.

I REALLY wish someone with twins could test this unit. It takes a lot more than a reasonably sized single to test the filter, imo.

I asked Donaldson if they could make a 4" or 5" outlet version, and they said they could, but necking down to anything less than 6" hurt flow too much in their opinion.

You know how much a 5" inlet can flow, now imagine THAT being considered a restriction.

The problem is that the unit is similar to a BHAF in dimensions, and imo would be tough to fit with twins. But I bet it could be done.

I need to follow up with Donaldson, as I handed them off to some 3rd gen testers on developing this filter.

The thread should be an easy find by search. There are also pics in my gallery...

5. 5" 45* to 4" adapter off the BHT3B up to a 4" inlet x 14" long AFE.

I might try to fit some 5" in there, but have to do a remote filter kit first.

Thanks Hohn. I will look for those pics. My current AFE has a 6" outlet, and supposedly should flow 1400 CFM, but I have no way to test that. My concern at this time is the plumbing in between, when is what I messed up by sucking it into the HT3B. I'd rather not have to try to fabricate a hard pipe between the filter and the HT3B, but I will if that's what it takes. My hope is to find some 5" flexible hose, that has ribbing and/or thickness enough that it cannot be collapsed, but it still needs to be flexible enough to turn that, almost, 180 degrees from the filter to the turbo inlet.

Justin, thanks for the pics. What size cold pipe do you have? I can't see the plumbing between the filter and the turbo. Do you have any pics of that?

Thanks,

Chris

Cold pipe is 4"

I will take some more pics of the filter pipe.
