Theres a better solution

Alright guys I honestly don't think you read Diesel Power magazine. There was a 2 part article that was titled Air filter shootout. I have one of the parts of the article here in front of me and I have another Diesel Power magazine with the article name, Project X Diesel, that tells me that the AFE stage 2 gave the most power out of all the air intakes they spent the day on the dyno installing and dynoing. Diesel Power did their research and all I had to do was make a small investment in the magazines to know which Air Intake to buy. I don't have unlimited funds like the magazine company does (they paid for a days worth of dyno time and probably got intakes for free), So I had to spend my money right the first time. In one of their articles they said the AFE intake stage 2 made more power with the filter on the intake then no filter at all. They stated that the AFE was the loudest air intake out of the bunch. Picture this which is and relate to your intake decision: your outside and the wind is blowing pretty strong and the wind is not all that noisey. Then a few hours later a tornado rolls through your backyard. Which was noisier and why? The tornado hands down because it was moving so much more air and a heck of a alot faster. The more air you move the louder it is without soundening parts on the intake. So if the AFE is the loudest and produced the loudest turbo whine at 2000 rpm compared to the other air intakes which would you take. I first hand installed the AFE stage 2 on my truck after reading that article. I must say the AFE is as big as possible in every dimension to maximize air flow potential. It is so big I had to fight and wrestle the intake the whole way on. It barely fits. Diesel power magazine had the same problem. a couple more things in order to build power you need flow in a engine. the faster you get things in and out the more power you gain. I learnt that from an engine class in school from a teacher who used to build engines at Robert Yates (NASCAR nextel cups series engine supplier) in mooresville NC. Also by eliminating restrictions in the way of breathing will increase MPG. The stock air filter on the 2004. 5 has "mouse fur" on the end to try to quite the turbo by restricting flow through it. Then the series of tight bends in the factory air intake restrict flow. The stock intake has a silencer between the airbox and the turbo inlet tube. All of this to quite the turbo down so the truck would be bought by people who wanted a quite turbo from the interior. I know you guys have your mind set on sealing out the hot engine air, but if you only use the factory fender opening for the airbox inlet you will choke down the engine compared to its power potential. More flow is more important than trying to squeeze every last bit of the coldest air possible through the fender. You guys have to understand that the air is gonna heat up 300 degree anyways when it gets pressurized by the turbo, so every last bit of cold air isn't worth it. If you are wanting increased gas mileage I gained 1. 2 MPG with the AFE stage 2 intake and I am 20 years old with no drivers license cuz I have a heavy foot. So I am asking you to spend you money right the first time and Buy the AFE stage 2. I drive 80,000 miles a year. The AFE stage 2 saves me 395 gallons of diesel a year (when my truck was almost stock tuner, straight pipe and AFE), which equals $967. 25. Thats money I could be spending towards lawyer and court costs for my heavy foot driving habit. In your case you could be spending that money on someone that you care about the most or even getting more MPG. But remember the guys out there that most of you have common sense and drive like you have common sense so the MPG increase will be more for you. I personally am changing the way I am driving cuz I don't have a license and can't afford lawyer fees alone, so I should see more MPG's but my tests don't help you guys cuz I have done to many other things now to give you accurate reading.

Oh and before I ran the AFE stage 2 I ran a K&N replacement filter. The K&N replacement filter alone is bigger than the AEM stuff you guys where talkign about. My 1. 2 gain was over the the K&N which has been so long that I can't remember how many MPG it gave me. I spent my money the wrong way with just got the impulse and bought the K&N and what a beotch to install it cuz Its so big compared to stock filter. SO big it barely fit in the stock airbox. I do remember it flowing decent.
