Air Ride Cab...

Anybody done anything like that? Been thinking about it for a while, but haven't look into feasability yet. Just wondering if it do-able. Most likely just replacing the bumpers with mini airbags of some sort.



Also been thinking about putting in and airride seat. I've already got an air system, might as well use it.

All class 8 trucks us an air bag system to float the cab... . but the bags are about 3-4" high when inflated and the mounts are designed for that... . I'm afraid that you'd have to do a lot of changes to change the cab over to air... . But it would be an interesting idea and would love to know how it rides...

I haven't done any measureing yet, but it's easy to see that class 8 bags are way too tall. Im thinking there's gotta be a small airbag out there somewhere that would fit where the rubber bumpers are now. Maybe instead of sitting here thinking, I should go outside and measure. Na, that's too much like work for a steamy Sun. evening



Edit: From the bottom of cab to top of frame mount is a mere 1. 75". I don't think that's gonna be enough room for a very effective airbag. If such a bag would exist, the mounting would be easy. Anybody got any better ideas, I'm open to suggestions.

Here's an idea... since you're so limited on travel, make some mounts out of some kind of rubber to isolate the frame vibrations from the cab. I know it's probably been done before.



Oh yeah, the trucks already have that.

Yeah, and those rubber bumpers are probably on the same quality level as the u-joints and 2nd gen lift pumps...

If you air ride the cab, you have to air ride the front clip also. I can see all that moving around would probably loosen things up now and then, not to mention the radiator moving, possibly into the fan blades, hoses, wiring, etc.



ALso, you would have to secure the cab and front end to the frame somehow. You can't just put bags where the mounts were and expect them not to move around. There would have to be some type of link setup or something, or a pivot.



IMHO unless you have lots of $$'s time, or money to put into it, it's not feasable.



Just air ride the suspension, or the seat, and call that good :-laf
