Mega Cab QC.SB.Dually BIG mistake

Buying used 5th wheel

Hello, got a 2 questions for the group.

I am a Full Time RVer pulling a 34 ft. 5th wheel, weights in a 15100 lbs. The truck is a 2003 Ram 3500, HO w/6 speed manual. My GCW is 24900 lbs ( I know I am overgrossed). The roads lately have really become rough to ride on.

Question 1) Has anyone looked into having air ride seats installed?

Question 2) Has anyone had an aftermarket rear end air suspension installed? If so, could you please comment on the results?

Thanks

Gene

You can do it in the older trucks, but are new ones have the seatbelts in the seats. Which no one makes a replacement air seat like that. On the other hand I would check out Kelderman air ride. It makes a HUGE difference. With air ride on the rear of the truck and an air ride hitch it will be like driving a Cadillac!!

Air Ride Seats

I use an Air Hawk (inflatable seat cushion) for extended driving. A lot cheaper than air ride seats and easily removed. You sit about 1 - 2" higher than normal but very comfortable.

I installed air seats in my 01.

I fabricated my own seat brackets and shoulder harness mounts.

We really like them.

Please tell more. What brand seats, how much headroom, what type of seatbelts, you have peaked my interest!! Looked at your pics, but couls not tell how the belts work. Thanks, Karl

I installed an air ride seat in my '96 Ext. cab without much trouble at all. I was concerned it would mash my head into the roof due to the height of a Class 8 truck seat base.

Bostrom seating makes a low profile model in either a high back of mid back. I chose the high back and in a color to match my upholstry. I made a steel plate (1/4") that bolts directly to the current mount locations, then tapped the plate to accept the new seating mounts. I used a ARB air compressor mounted under the hood to do the air work. I could not ride 10 miles in my truck before the seat due to the concrete freeways segments or jarring from uneven roads. Now I go to Canada without problems. (1100miles). Whenever I think it still rides a little firm, I try it in the passenger seat, then it reminds me why I put the seat in. Sometimes I see my wife getting pounded when I'm not, so will probably get a second seat. Would I do it again? I just bought another '96 and that seat is going in the first chance I get, otherwise I cannot travel. I did have to take the center console out however, but with a little creativity, I'm sure you could leave it in.

I bought the seat through a Freightliner dealer and it took about 3wks to get, they make each one per order. Hope this helps. If you need any other information, PM me or email me would even be better.
