Airaid intake tube

I noticed the Airaid tube seems to taper down quite a bit whereas the factory tube is straight through. Any idea on why? I'm either going with the Airraid, or just some 5. 5" aluminum tubing. Here's a link to the Airaid... .

the AFE stage 2 replaces all that factory tubing from the air filter to the turbo, but it is a bit pricey

I'm assuming from your signature that's a 'cool blue hose'. Where does one find those? Quick search of this site/google led to a lot of results, but nothing to help find who sells it. Thanks.
