After replacing my cracked 2003 dashboard, my airbag warning light stays lit. My mechanic tells me the airbag is ready but I would like to turn off the warning light. Any advice? Thanks. l

AR,

From what I'm seeing in the factory service manual, you're going to need access to a Chrysler DRBIII scan tool to find out why the ACM (Airbag Control Module) is keeping the airbag indicator lamp lit. It's impossible to know what's causing it othewise. It could be something simple like maybe your mechanic forgot to attach a connector to the passenger airbag On/Off switch?

All it'll take is a quick trip to any Dodge dealer so they can hook up their DRBIII and get a readout.

If he pulled the steering column out and allowed the wheel to turn the clock spring may have been damaged

It could be as sime as not getting the controller plugged back in correctly

It is dead center on the hump

Geno's Garage provided the dash replacement. Comes in black. I didn't see a need to paint it. My loco dodge dealer wants $100 to tell me why the airbag dash light is staying lit.

:-laf your "mechanic" is wrong, and he most likely created your new problem. He owes you the repair. Not the dealer

My friend/mechanic is dealing with a ton of issues with his very ill Dad. He really wasn't in a good position to tear the dash apart again so I went to the dodge dealer to run the scan and tell me which wire was loose/broken/etc. The $100 quoted was for just that and no one but dodge has the required scanner. So, I went elsewhere and for $211 I got the twin faults fixed and a state inspection as well. Unfortunately I now know I have something wrong that sounds like my fan has a clutch problem. Wonder what that's like? If I wasn't working on the local team getting ready for the National Elks Convention starting tomorrow I would now be having some fun looking through the forum for my answer. Having some fun now mama!

Technically not true, but for practical purposes... yes. You can still buy a DRBIII scan tool new from the manufacturer ($$$$$$) or used on eBay. I picked on up on eBay a few years ago after the big wave of dealership closures. Worth the investment to keep my truck away from mechanics at the dealership service department!

Have fun at the convention!
