5" Exhaust

noise question from new Dodge guy

I previously drove an '01 Duramax. These early trucks had very restrictive airboxes and a good number of owners, myself included, drilled the bottom of the airbox to improve flow. I put ~thirty 3/8" holes in it with a speed bore and it helped a bunch.

I've seen posts here about the Dodge '03 airbox. Is it proven to be restrictive and if so is there a down side to "swiss-cheesing" the bottom of it like we did on the Chevy.

Thanks, Jeff

I did one 4" hole and RTV'd a drainage elbow out the bottom facing the front of the truck and my filter minder no longer drops to 35% the first time I put the pedal down. I haven't found any down side to my version of fixing the problem:D

In other words yes, the stock box is too restrictive.
