Airconditioner problem

On a long drive last week the A/C stopped blowing hard. I could hear the fan going full blast, but there was no pressure coming out of the vents at any vent setting.



This became quite uncomfortable as we wre drivng through the AZ desert on a 100 degree day. I pulled into a truck stop to fill up and while I was under the hood checking the oil I noticed water POURING from the evaporator case overflow tube. There was a steady solid stream and there was probably close to a half gallon of water on the ground.



After refueling we had full A/C power again and we haven't experienced the problem since.



Has anyone else experienced this? Did I just have a restriction and it popped free when I stopped, or does the evaporator case not drain properly when the truck is run at high speeds for extended times in hot weather?

This condition is normally caused by low air flow across the evaporator (inside coil). With low air flow, the moisture that condenses on the evaporator may freeze on it and make a block of ice which won't let any air pass through it. The thing to do is don't run your fan on low or shut the AC off occasionally to give the ice time to melt off the coil. That is what you did when you stopped for fuel.

My service dept. said this is a known problem with '03 Rams. I was told that they have to replace a sensor that requires pulling the dash. Was supposed to have mine done last Friday, but couldn't get to it. I've had it happen 4 times since May.....

Mine had the same condition. THe blend door was replaced, changed the orifice, a check valve, and some other stuff. It works great now, but took the local dealer 3 weeks to fix.

Well I have one that will top all. . My a/c cuts on and off and will cool when it wants. . But the big kicker is when I turn of my truck and remove the key from the ignition my a/c blower will come on about 15 secs after the key is removed and blow until I put the key back in the ignition and turn the a/c on and off. I even had one time that I came out of my house in the morning to find a slow blowing fan in the truck and a dead battery.

Mine has a weird problem. It blows cold on the driver side and hot on the pass. side. This truck does not have the split controls. Dealer said it was normal!Ya right.
