Well my sweet daughter gave me my birthday gift today a airdog 150 with draw straw. I have a few questions about the install here goes.

Do I leave the factory fuel canster and lift pump in place? if not what do I do with the water sensor and the fuel heater once they are unpluged will they throw a CEL code? And in the kit I would rather not use the draw straw they supply I like the VALCAN-I drawstraw with 2 returns and 1 supply that way I dont have to cut the fuel filler tube for the return. Are people just leaving everything in and bypassing it or are they ripping it out??

I can only answer the first question you have.

I removed the fuel filter canister w/fuel heater. I wrapped the water in fuel sensor connecter in plastic bag and sealed it tight. Does not throw a code as long as it does not get damp.

I have had this truck in -15 degree cold and it started fine and ran fine in without the heater. I do use fuel treatment when it gets to be that cold.

When you installed your draw straw did you use the factory return line from the VP or did you install one from the draw straw to the vp my airdog manual tells me I have to use the factory return line from vp.

i have the fass 150 and i like the VALCAN-I draw straw better then the cut filler neck. i started with the cut filler neck and was never impressed. with the vulcan 1 it keep the canister fuller and you are less likely to suck air when the tank gets low. how ever i did see this and i am thinking about putting this on my tank. you are not going to suck air. if you do you are out of fuel. Hellman Performance Fuel Tank Sump and here are some pictures of it installed Hellman Performance Fuel Tank Sump

JohnBoy5 when you installed your draw straw did yours have two returns on it and one pickup? When you hooked up your return from the vp44 did you cut the line at the tank or did you run a new line to the return on the vp44? Sorry for all the questions just want to make sure I do the right thing.

I got the draw straw that has 2 return ports. i picked that one because i wanted to return as much fuel back to the canister as i could. as for the return from the vp44 i used the factory line and vulcan sends the fittings to install the factory line with out cutting it. i think that fitting is called a doorman or something like that. i will say this out of caution to you. if you use the factory line and i think the factory line is the best thing in my opinion. but here is the word of caution. be very careful when un clipping the factory return line from the sending unit. the clips can break very easy (just take your time and dont get in a rush, it will also help if you can get some extra light under the truck while you are trying to take that one loose. ) the next word of caution, when you are installing it back on the new fitting from vulcan make sure it locks back on. it can trick you so i would give it a tug and see.

its pretty easy to install once you get your little box of parts and you can see everything.

when you pull the fuel canister out you will see 2 screes in the bottom, mine were really nasty. i cut the top one out as if you are looking down on it and cleaned the 2nd one to look like new. also they recommend drilling a bunch of small holes around the bottom of the canister to drain in to the screen. i did not like that so i used a whole saw bit and where the factory pick up clicked in i drilled all that out. i just found the hole saw that fit just right in the hole.

The other thing i chose to do was from the vulcan pick up to the fass (in your case air dog) i ran 1/2 line so it could suck as much fuel as it wanted but in that line i installed a 30 micron system 1 filter that i can clean once and a while. System 1 Filtration/Faria Eng 200-201406 - System 1 Fuel Filters - Overview - SummitRacing.com i dont remember if i got the 6 or 8 AN. i got the one that matched 1/2 line and the fitting to go with it. maybe someone can chime in and tell if 6 or 8 AN is 1/2 inch line.....

Hope this helps.
